Help--want to find hair he will like and I will too!

I wanted to do my hair mostly down in soft curls for the wedding. I had it done in the kind of curls I had in mind for our e-pics. He said "you weren't trying to be very formal today, were you?" Soo...what can I do that will both be more formal to fit his idea, and make me happy? There are pictures of my hair in my married bio if you want to take a look.  It was mostly down, but the stylist pulled it back just a little bit on top with some rhinestone bobby pins to make it look a little more formal.  Sometimes just adding a pretty barrette or a nice clip can make a huge difference.
