Curly or Straight Wedding Hair?

Hi all!

I just wanted to take a poll for my wedding hair. I have long, curly hair and my boyfriend loves it when I wear it naturally - but I can never find any formal hairstyles for curly hair.

We're having a super low-key wedding, and this is my dress (http://i.imgur.com/8FXBDvlh.jpg), so would I be able to get away with just wearing my hair down and sticking a headband in it? Or, would it be best to straighten it and go for a more formal style?

For reference, this is pretty low-res photo of my curly hair: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/576038_10101190730184450_7002158_n.jpg

Those of you with curly hair, how did you style it for your wedding? I'd love to see pics!

Beautiful dress and beautiful hair!! My FI is the same, he loves my hair with its natural wave, while I like it when I spend forever straightening it. For the wedding, I just want him to think I look beautiful so I'm going with wavy/very loose curls. I'd say go with what he thinks is sexy. I think you could def do the headband. Or maybe one side up with a pretty comb?
  • One option is to straighten it and then curl it. I know this sounds dumb, but naturally curly hair is pretty hard to style and most people dont naturally have those loose VS model waves. So if you want a look that is familiar to your FI but still more formal and different, you can try that.

  • You are beautiful and so is your dress. My manager who also has naturally wavy hair had the same dilemma. She opted to leave it wavy, the way he loves it. Her theory, and mine also for my wedding day, is that we wanted to look like ourselves on our wedding day, just glammed up.

What about wearing your hair like you have it in the photo with a beautiful hair clip in the back to hold the sides back? It would allow you to play up your curls, have a fun accessory in your hair, and have it in a way that your FI loves to see you in. With your hair pulled back, you can get some nice big earrings too if you wanted.

  • Thank you all very much - for the compliments and the suggestions. :) It's good to know that wearing my hair curly will still look very 'wedding'. I really do like the idea of a comb; I'll have a look on Etsy!

The curly hair looks really pretty on you naturally! I have the same dilemma (I'm geetting married in a month) and I agree with the other ladies--go for a compromise.  Get your hair blown out (not straightened, blown out) and let the hair stylist (or you) give you loose curls or waves that look glam.  That is what I am doing and putting on a head band with crystals/flowers.  My fiances likes my curls too and frowns when I straighten LoL It's the perfect compromise to still look different but like you! Good luck pretty girl!
  • I'm going all curly. I don't straighten my hair that much - it takes waaay too long these days because my hair is so long. For reference, here's a decent picture of my hair.

I'm going to get my hair put up - I love my curls but I do not want to worry about them frizzing or getting in my face all day (which is what happened during our e-pics!). I do not plan on straightening and then recurling my hair, because my curls are so tight it wouldn't look "natural" for me.

If you want a more "glam" look, I vote with the others for the straigten & loose curl it. Gorgeous dress, by the way!
  • I'm going to weigh in, having had my hair trial about a week ago.  I went in with my hair curly (mine's not as curly as the OP) and she used a curling iron for the updo.  I'd suggest discussing the options with your stylist since I assume its probably harder to first straighten (with heat tools, I assume) and then curl it again.

  • I think curly hair looks fancier, and since you have naturally curly hair you should work with it!
  • My hair is naturally curly as well, I bought a pretty white flower clip... I'm thinking of big curls with it in the side or a wavy side ponytail... I asked FI and he prefers it down, I'm just a little nervous the big curls will fall out, and my hair tends to frizz ALOT in the hunidity...
