NWR: Summer theater gig???

So remember how I did Sweeney this year? It was hard at times, I wanted to wring people's necks at times, etc. Anywho, I've had time to recollect on the whole experience and I have no gigs set up yet....they are doing Les Mis this year as of now(they may change it) and if they do I get the part of Eponine! If anyone here knows the story, I think that this role is the best female role in the show. Not a huge part, but BEAUTIFUL music.

Sorry, had to squeal. And it might fall through, but I just like thinking that I may get to play this AMAZING role. I will have to skip a cousin's wedding to do it too.

  • That is awesome! Eponine's just outside the strongest part of my range (I'm a high mezzo), but it's definitely an amazing part and I've always wanted to do it. Very jealous. I'd totally skip all sorts of stuff to be in Les Mis, it's one of my favorite shows.

Side note, my sister got me the CD of the original cast recording of Sweeney Todd for Christmas, and it definitely made me think of you.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • haha, the one with Angela? OMG she had such a hard time with the singing.

  • Her voice is so distinctive, and I was raised on Disney, so listening to the soundtrack and picturing Mrs. Potts as Mrs. Lovett is just all kinds of awkward and wrong.

  • Yeah, a tea pot killing people and making them into people pies.....delicious, Mrs. Potts....I'll have 2!

Les Mis is my all time favorite show. I saw it on Broadway just before it went off, and cried the whole d@mn time because I was so excited to be there. Seriously, if you have the opportunity, TAKE IT. SO JEALOUS.

EDIT: I always think of Lea Salonga in that role, and she has probably got my favorite voice of all time. I always think anyone that plays that role has big shoes to fill, and that it's an honor to be asked. Therefore, you should absolutely do it.

  • I love Les Mis and I love Eponine. I have the soundtrack on my Ipod and listen to it in the car sometimes. That would be a fantastic role for you. I know the part's small, but I think her character is very important to the whole story. And On My Own is one of my favorites from the show.

  • Sounds like a great opportunity!
  • Ooh! I'm jealous. I would love to play Eponine, and would pretty much drop everything to do so ... but alas, I'm resigned to life as an alto. You have no idea how much soprano envy I have.

  • I can't even sing, let alone know what my range is. I sing in the car, that's about it.

  • Meg, Eponine IS an alto, er, a mezzo. Cosette is the soprano. Fantine is also considered a mezzo. I'm stoked. Since we did Sweeney together last year, they know I can do it. And the guy they want to play Marius will not do the show unless I go....so I have some really good leaverage.

Yeah, I know she is technically the "alto" ... but she's at the very top of my range ... so I can sing "On My Own", but it winds up sounding like a bad American Idol audition by the time I get to "I love him ...", lol.

Again: soprano envy, I haz it.

  • haha, I am so hoping that these plans stick. I love Lea Salonga and I can't think of a better performer than her in that role. I have been so lucky that recently I've been playing roles that have either been played or originated by the Broadway divas!

  • Yay Stina!

All I know is Les Mis is a major production (I've never had the privilege of seeing it) and I'm not familiar with the music but I'll take your word for it on the role.

    Good for you =)
