DIY

Hey ladies.. just wondering how much DIY projects you girls are taking on and how do you expect to accomplish them?

Reason why I ask is because my wedding obssessed self has decided to do the centerpiece mock up. I wasn't intended on doing it now. I just went to Michaels and they had what I wanted on sale for 40% off so I just jumped the gun. As soon as I am done with my one mock up I will post a picture here! =)

    I plan on:
    -making/decorating our unity candle set
    -making the card box
-making escort cards and boards for them to go on
    -menu's
    -cake table decorations

I went to Michael's last week and got a bunch of things on sale. I haven't started making anything yet. I will probably start early next spring and definetly over the summer when I am off with my job.

@mizzicantwait, I have noticed they give a 40% coupon with every purchase. They just expire so quickly

The coupons are good for the duration of a Sun-Sat week. The ones you receive from a purchase will be good for the following week (to keep you coming back). I get an e-mail almost every week, but near the end of my employment, they started cutting back coupons on occasion. Just start early on the purchases so you have time to get everything with a discount.

Speaking of Jo-Ann, definitely worth signing up for their mailing list too.  I have four 50% off coupons from them.

I will probably be doing the centerpieces...FMIL has also offered to pick up the things I need for them up there so that I don't have to worry about transport.  I don't have a clue what to do for them, just that I don't want something too intricate.

Don't forget Hobby Lobby as well. We have all three craft stores here so for my friend's weddding, I signed up for them.

I was on the Oriental Trading website and I think I figured out what I'm going to do for my wedding favors!!!

I saw the following and absolutely love the overall idea: http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/browse/processRequest.do?demandPrefix=12&sku=5/1410&prodCatId=388621&mode=Browsing&erec=2&Ntx=mode%2bmatchallpartial&sp=true&Ntk=all&requestURI=processProductsCatalog&tabId=1&N=388621+98&sd=Personalized+Wedding+Swirl+Pops

I'm thinking about purchasing this (or similar) to put it in though:
    http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/browse/processRequest.do?demandPrefix=12&sku=12/2276&prodCatId=388737&mode=Browsing&erec=0&Ntx=mode%2bmatchallpartial&sp=true&sp=false&Ntk=all&requestURI=processProductsCatalog&tabId=1&Ne=388629&N=388737&sd=Clear+Champagne+Flutes

Of course I'd buy some sort of candy to put in it, like in the pop picture, and I would probably dress it up with a bow (I'm anti dust collectors especially when they're totally personalized...who wants a reminder of my wedding up in their house?!?).

@2012JulyBride - That is a very cute idea!  And I am completely with you about no dust collectors.  Favors might be one of the few things I have come across so far that FI and I can't really come to an agreement on (thank goodness we have plenty of time to decide!).  I think edible is the best way to go, he wants something that will last.  I don't mean to sound cheap but I don't want to spend a lot of money on favors that our guests will take home and throw away.

Thanks for mentioning Hobby Lobby!  Got a 40% coupon today to buy heart-shaped embelishments.

You all inspired me to start working out my centerpieces.  I think we are going to do candles and I want to do something like two white pillars with a ribbon wrapped around them.  Priced out some candles, priced out grapevine, priced out mirrors... bought some ribbon.
I was thnking wide black ribbon with thin pink ribbon and the heart embelishment on one, the not as wide pink ribbon on the other. Your thoughts?

The only things I have decided to DIY at this point is the centerpieces and the favors.  I'm not against doing some other things too, but haven't thought about any other projects.

I was thinking about DIY invitations, but not so sure about that.  My friend did hers and they were cute, but I don't have that kind of confidence in myself!!!  : )

I plan on doing a lot:
escort cards, my veil, invites and all the paper stuff, all things flower related, centerpieces, favors, cardbox, and do our cake topper.

Joanns, Michaels, and Hobby Lobby are my best resources.
