Pinning a heavy dupatta

How does one keep the dupatta in place, especially if it is pretty heavy?

I've heard that some people "pin" it, but i'm not sure what that means exactly.  What type of pins do you use and where would you put them?

I've wondered the same thing...

...but more so how do you keep it on your head?

My dupatta was not heavy so I didn't have to worry but I'm still curious

I went to a sari shop a few months ago to buy a sari just for the heck of it, and while I was there I tried on a wedding outfit at the shop owner's insistence (FI told her we were getting married and she got all "You have to try this on!"). She told me that typically she tells brides to sew a haircomb or a barette in the front of the dupatta to secure it to the hair, and then safety-pin the edges to the blouse.

I used a lot of pins for the dupatta to the blouse, in strategic places - first pleat it, then in the under the first pleat, and the last pleat to the blouse.

As for the head, I used bobbing pin/clips - which show, but at least it stayed there :)  I wonder if there are clear versions :)

Thanks for the ideas.  I like the idea of "sewing" it in place from the M&M blog. I think it would give more freedom of movement.  I'll keep you posted how it goes.....

My lady in waiting tied my sari in such a way that I did not need any pins/bobby pins to hold up my dupatta..She did use tons of pins to tie my sari..
