Legal Question/ Can I have a relative marry us?

Hello, 

I am from NY and plan to get married in CT. Will NY acknowledge my marriage??

 

I also plan to have my uncle marry us.. can he get ordained soon and marry us? Is it true that a few sites offer this service for free?

 

Please help..

Definitely do not have someone marry you who is only ordained online, as such ordinations are not recognized in Connecticut.  See this New York Times article on the subject.

If you get validly married in Connecticut, New York will recognize the marriage.  New York (like my home state of Maryland) is one of the states that recognizes gay marriages performed elsewhere, although it does not permit them to be performed in the state.

Of course, the federal government will currently not recognize any same-sex marriage, due to the Defense of Marriage Act.  :-(
