My fiancee and I want to have a big engagement party (my aunt and uncle have offered to host one) even though we're having a small wedding. We really want a chance to celebrate with everyone. Etiquette says we shouldn't invite anyone who isn't invited to the wedding, but we would say it up-front that we're having an intimate wedding and that this is not a shower with gifts, but a party we're throwing for our friends. I've asked people in our bridal parties if they think it's OK, and they say yes but some suggested calling it something other than an 'engagement party' to not create expectations of a wedding invite. Does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative name?
