Invatations Question....

  OK, I'm getting married Oct 2013, so there is no real urgency to this question but how would you address invatations to married lesbians? Would you say Mrs.& Mrs.? or just one Mrs. ? ie. Mrs. name & name Lastname? How would you say that? Any and all opinions welcome!! Thanks!!

I don't know if this is "formal enough", but we are announced as "H & M Lastname". That is what we prefer, but thats just us. If you are close with one/both of them, ask in casual conversation what they like. This is what the knot said on the subject:

Addressing married straight couples with the same last name is a touchy subject.  Some get upset if you address them as Mr. and Mrs. John Jones, seeing that as sexist.  Others get upset if you address them as Mr. John and Mrs. Jane Jones, because traditionally Mrs. Jane Jones is used only for a divorcee.

In comparison, addressing married lesbian couples with the same last name is a snap.  According to Miss Manners, the correct form is The Mesdames Sally and Betty Jones.

If they have different last names, they could be Ms. Sally Smith and Ms. Jane Jones.  ("Ms." is the female equivalent of Mr., and appropriate regardless of whether the woman is married or single.)  This is the equivalent of how you'd address a straight couple with different last names.
