Different Kind of Bachelorette Party

Going out drinking with my bridesmaids and girlfriends isn't really our thing. Also, it's not something I'll stop doing once I'm married. Camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities are something my family loves and my future husband hates, so they will be something that'll be harder to do once I'm married.

Thus my plan for an alternative bachelorette party: Camping with my family, including my father, who is bemused at being invited to what I'm still calling a "bachelorette party." My fiance and his parents celebrated Thanksgiving with my family, and as I exchange bunches of e-mails with Mom about including him in our Christmas celebrations, I'm really looking forward to this camping trip as the last time it's just the five of us (me, parents, two sisters). I think it'll be far more meaningful than another party with my peer-friends.

Did anyone else do anything special to sort of say good-bye to their "family of origin"?

I didn't do anything for a bachelorette party.  But I really like that you are doing something with your family before the big day.  It will help you make some wonderful memories.

    That's a very fun idea!

Neither of us had a bach party.  I never really wanted or expected one.  H just wanted to go golfing with his GMs, no drinking or strippers or anything, but his BM told him that if there weren't going to be strippers then the BM wouldn't plan it, so they didn't do anything.  I still feel bad for him about that.

Neither of us did anything to say goodbye to our families of origin.  We see them almost as much now as we did before we were married!

I think it's fabulous!  I think that bachelorette parties have evolved over the years, and along with some peoples' becoming ridiculously large and garish, there are also lots of girls keeping it simple and really doing what they love and makes them happy.  Way to go, I think it sounds like a great plan.

    Sounds perfect!!

Neither FI or I are having a typical pre-wedding party. We aren't drinkers or clubbers so we are doing something more our speed.

I love your idea and I think it's sweet it involved your dad!

    I think it's a cool idea!

My bach party was at Amazing Jakes with the ladies in the WP and both families and their kids.
DH went to a movie and bowling.

I had a blast, and didn't need alcohol to do it. :)

I don't know why people think that there have to be drinking and strippers for there to be a b-party.

DH and his guys played football, watched football, played video games, and ate hot wings.

My girls and I went shopping at an outlet center, played board games, watched movies, and had a sleepover with breakfast the next day.

FI wants to go ride dirt bikes for his bachelor party. I plan on spending the day downtown with my girls. We aren't drinkers or partiers so this works for us.

I love your idea to go camping with your family..but i wouldnt call it a bachlorette party....how about a "final family camping trip" :P. We havn't planned that far...and as far as i have heard stagettes and bachlor parties are supposed to be planned by the bridesmaids and groomsmen....so we are just giving them lists of what we DONT want (getting drunk/strippers/expensive, etc.....) and the rest will be a suprise.

I see your point, toothpaste, but 'cause these are the people I'm absolutely closest to, we're doing what works, not what the books and websites say. Note that Dad loved the name. It'll also be over my birthday, months before the wedding, for weather reasons, so it's a bit more like I'm planning my birthday outing than planning my bachelorette party, whatever we call it. And a rose by any other name...

That sounds so sweet :) For my bachelorette party I have heard a little bit here and there (they are trying to keep it secret) but it sounds like its going to be a weekend getaway to a hotel in Toronto with my girls, catch a show, dinner out, just a nice time away :)

ETA: By girls I also include my Man of Honour who is planning it all!
