unity?

So I am having an outside wedding so candles for the unity ceremony are not really an option.  I have heard of people using colored sand or different color waters.  Any opinions or have you seen either of these at a wedding yourself?

I considered using sand and have seen the sand. I think it is really nice and I also like it because it would be something that you could keep and display in your home forever. I've never seen the water but it sounds nice.

Oh I never even thought about the keepsake part! Well the water you use two different color and when you done it becomes one new color.  IDK You have me leaning towards the sand now. lol

On pages 4 and 5 of this board, there are a few posts about different ceremonies you can incorporate into the wedding.  Here's one about a unity cross that sounds pretty sweet:

You can also do a three-stranded cord to incoporate the importance of God in your marriage.

We're doing the Cord of Three Strands, as Jeffie mentioned.  We got the idea from www.godsknot.com

If you really want to use candles, I've seen couples use either hurricane globes or decorative lanterns to house and protect the candles during the ceremony.  But, yeah...the wind blowing out the flame that is supposed to represent your eternal love for one another?  Not good...

We are using sand.  I got some pretty cheep sand and glass containers at Michael's.  I liked how it showed the merging of the two as well as incorperated the wedding colors. (and you dont blow it out like the candle of your "eternal love".

I would like to also throw in the suggestion about a salt ceremony. It is another way of displaying 2 have made a commitment to each other. Please see my posting listed earlier on this board.
Btw, I got a friend to make pouches, so this isn't to get you involved for my own interest. ;-)

i heard about somebody doing a "unity volcano" one person poured baking soda and the other poured red dyed vinegar lol
