I'm trying to figure out people's fascination with escalators.
My desk faces the bottom of the escalator in the store I work in and I see people doing all sorts of things on them. A few weeks ago, there was a young, unspupervised boy who rode up and down for a good 30 minutes; each time he would strike a different pose as he went up or down. Even his fascination, at that young age, made more sense than the teenagers, though. When school's out, I always know because I have abunch of teens just riding up and down the escalators, talking and obviously having a great time going absolutely nowhere.
So what gives? What is it about riding up and down, always ending in the same place with no thrills or variations in between that is so dang entertaining? I thought teens had no attention span because of video games. Am I just old now? I won't even go into the grown folks that are scared to get on and freak out at the top.
