Wedding Woes

S/O fiery nipples - a PR question.

What part of pregnancy or childbirth do you wish you knew about, but didn't realize until it actually happened? And then you were all WTF is happening?!
I.E. pooping on the table, tearing, constipation.

You know, the stuff you wish someone had told you, but they left that part out or sugar coated it?

(I hope that first part makes sense. And yes, I know I haven't even had the first appt yet. The more you know. I'll do my best to put PR in the subject. That way if you don't want to read it, feel free to ignore. Tongue out)

HA! I guess this is number 2. I'll try, mostly because I know there are others hoping for a BFP. (I know how that feels, no matter how happy you are for someone else.)

    Thanks!

I am actually interested to see what others would say. Without the IRL filter that some use.

you know, nothing really comes to mind. I don't think I really knew about postpartum hair loss until I experienced it. But that's not really that big of a deal. (but really, if you can afford a dyson pet model, buy one, because it's crazy ridiculous.)

Uh oh. H already says I shed. And I do. There's usually more hair in the vacuum than dirt.

The free-floating anxiety for the first two weeks she was alive. Seriously, I couldn't sleep more than twenty minutes at a time, because I'd startle awake thinking she wasn't breathing.

Pregnancy itself was meh, whatever, but that horrible anxiety I could have done without.

Oh, but someone could have warned me that all I'd want was sex in months four and five. That was a little startling, even for me.

I could see that, Bmom. I can't really imagine/know exactly, but I could see where a new mother could be anxious about that.

Here's extra personal information for the day: H and my plan to catch the pregnants was to, well, do what we do. Which is sex all the time. So, H betta watch out if this is the case! Ha!

    1. Leg cramps in the middle of the night. I;ve had two now. One in each calf.

    2. Carpal Tunnel

    3. A friend of mine told me about the post hair loss. I'm vain about my hair, and this has me worried.

    4. The muscle aches in weird places.

    5. Increased number and severity of migraines and sinus headaches.

There's not much one can do about any of those things. Next time I won't be all WTF.

    1. The sex thing was a nice surprise. Unfortunately it coincided with my appendectomy.

    2. I wish someone had told me appis and gallbladders were issues with pregnancies. Calling doctor brother from an ED in BFE Ohio because they wanted to cut me open at 25 weeks was scary, scary, scary.

    3. DH was kind enough to tell me that pregnant women lose 6-10% of their brain power. It was also nice of him to tell my boss that. The extra water squishes the brain or something.

    4. The clumsiness was another surprise.

My sister kept me informed on everything except these.

Oh - and the "baby blues." I cried basically nonstop for the first 2 weeks after Dex was born. Then it turned off like a switch just after I decided I was actually insane.

I was prepared for the worst with Des, but, while I was certainly a little hormonal and emotional, it was nothing like with Dex.

The hairloss thing is kind of a misnomer - you do shed more, but it's because you DON'T shed DURING pregnancy. Or not as much. I remember suddenly having this crazy luxurious head of hair - that I couldn't dye the color I wanted. I was happy to get rid of it, though, because I had no idea what I was doing with it.

I wondered what fiery nipples had to do with Puerto Rico, and thought maybe it was a joke, you know, like moving to Mexico because you like spicy food.

Oddly, I never had the great hair during, so I didn't really lose much after. It's like no one told my hair it wasn't business as usual.

I assumed that all pregnant women had morning sickness, and was worried when I didn't--especially because all my books tried to silver-lining it with "It may be uncomfortable, but that's how you know the baby is growing and developing!" I just wanted to sleep all. the. time. I could have slept 16 hrs a day. When I brought this up at my doctor's appointment, the doctor was all easy-breezy, "Oh, I was the same way too--didn't throw up once, napped three times a day until about three months. Now, let's check your cervix." So I spent a lot of time fretting over nothing.

Also, in my case, labor wasn't as bad as what you see in the movies, with the woman screaming about how much she hates her husband for knocking her up and whatever. I had an epidural, and I was never really in much pain at all. Definitely no screaming. And DH swears no pooping on the table.
