Do scuba and snorkeling use different kinds of masks/fins?

Backstory: Groupon has a deal on a scuba class that I'm thinking of getting DH for v-day.  But he doesn't have a mask or fins, which are required, so I thought I'd throw in a GC so he can pick some out.  I was googling just to get an approximate price range for both so I know how much GC I'd have to buy, which would determine if the grand total is in my budget or not.  My search keeps turning up masks and fins for snorkeling, and I'm wondering if I am search-defective, or if they are the same for both.

HALP.

As long as you have good quality mask/fins, you should be fine. Make sure there is a good seal on your mask, and that your fins fit snugly. I wouldn't use a cheap snorkel mask that doesn't get a really good seal. I prefer shorter fins when diving, because I don't want to risk damaging the coral, but I've seen people use the longer ones with no problem.

Thank you both.  I was hoping I hadn't suddenly become a Google FAIL or something.  I've worn scuba gear once in my entire life, and apparently never stopped to ponder whether the mask and fins were the same as what I use to snorkel.

Collectively, I am pretty sure that WW knows everything worth knowing.
