    Dear Boss - if you want to add more to my plate PLEASE mention it to me first. I hate finding out by someone else coming to me and saying something to the effect of "since you'll be doing this now, can you please..." etc. Also, we have a new girl who is supposed to be taking on the old girls duties, to which, is this new task you're giving me. I promise I am not bored and see no reason for me to need to take on this new duty.
