Do we need a dance floor?

Our reception location has a low-pile carpet.  Do you think we need to rent a small dance floor?  How important is this?  We do want people to dance a lot.

If people want to dance, they'll dance - regardless of what's under their feet.

If you want dancing to be a huge part of your reception I would probably invest in at least a small dance floor.  I've been to lots of weddings without one and people seem to be hesitant to dance.  I think something about the presence of the floor says "dance" to guests whereas carpet really says "don't dance."
