Re: reviews on destinationweddings.com

  • I am using them right now. I started with Lois and I did not like her at all. She was unresponsive. When I let the company know they replaced her within one day and now I have Juliet Vercelli and I love her! She is helpfull and responsive and is not only helping with our travel plans but has been helpful with actaul infomation about the different resorts and cities since she has been to many of them.
  • I had a very bad experience with destinationweddings.com. We were planning a destination wedding because we wanted something beautiful and unique. We narrowed it down between New Zealand and Iceland for the breathtaking scenery and to get away from the touristy-resort scene. They tried to talk us into a Carribean wedding and then told us that our destinations were "too dangerous" (a total joke since both of those countries have some of the lowest crime rates in the world). I had to fire them and get our money back (which they returned). We ended up finding a local planner and had a gorgeous outdoor wedding in Iceland, complete with a reception at a geothermal hot spring Spa. Our guests, most of whom were hesitant at first, said it was the best destination they'd ever seen...and to think destinationweddings.com tried to talk us out of our dream wedding!! They are completely focused on pleasing their vendors, not on what their clients want. It set us back almost a month in our planning, and I'm glad that I got rid of them when I did! That being said, they seem okay if you want a popular beachy destination.
  • I am using destinationweddings.com right now.  Our TA has been pretty responsive, getting back to us within a day or two.  We are still trying to select a resort, so we haven't gotten to the nitty gritty of planning.  Once that begins, we will have to see how she does.  Luckily, our TA is located in the same city as we are, so I can call her any time.  In fact, we firt met in person at her house.  Her name is Cookie.
  • I also had an unpleasant experience with destinationweddings.com. We were assigned to Cheryl Woolward. We were excited to see what she had to offer us. Because it was our first time communicating with Cheryl, we both wanted to be on the call with her. For this reason, we asked to schedule a time for her to call us. She scheduled a call for 6:15....time goes by, no phone call.....I call her "direct line" and get a voicemail to a different person which I found strange.  45 minutes later she finally calls, however I could tell that she was distracted and in her car and she was rushing us to get off the phone. The next day she came back with a quote that was not what we wanted. I felt like she never took the time to just sit down and listen to what we wanted. She kept sending us quotes for places that were out of our budget and claimed that she could not find anything to fit our budget...even when we researched places ourselves and found that ones that would work.
Here is the real kicker.... after doing our OWN research, I asked her to quote us for two resorts that we liked. Almost a week went by and I did not hear back from her. My fiance and I were getting frustrated. I then get a call by a sales rep from destination weddings asking how our planning process was going. The gentelman was very nice and I expressed my concerns with Cheryl with him. Here come to find he tells me that Cheryl took a leave of absense and did not tell anyone! She didn't tell her employer she was leaving and she never told any of her clients..she just left. The gentlemen expressed a sincere appolegy which I appreciated. He said he was following up with all Cheryl's clients to transfer them to new specialists. Unfortunatly, we had it at this point and decided that we were way more productive planning our destination ourselves. I requested my $50 back and the gentelman appolegized for our inconvinence and agreed to refund the money.
Thank goodness we were not further along in any planning or we would have been screwed. I feel bad for the couples that did have to work with her, she was horrible.
  • Absolutely terrible experience working with Destinationweddings.com for our wedding in Moon Palace Cancun.

They are nothing else than a bad travel agency!
They guarantee not even the hotel would offer cheaper room rates than them which is an absolute lie!
They don't have experience handling guests traveling from outside the US, 50% of my guests were traveling from Mexico and I ended doing all travel arrangements for them because the agent assigned to us simply couldn't do it.

With these and many other issues I needed to micromanage the agent for 13 months, communicating with her several times a day, sending emails and following up with a call right away to make sure she understood everything. It was really a nightmare for me!

I even needed to contact the agent the weekend of my wedding as she messed up with guest's rooms and forgot to book transfers for some of my guests.

Oh and if you think they would take care of all the wedding details, the flowers, decorations and all that beautiful things that they advertise in their website Destinationweddings.com  they won't!! They would tell you 'Sorry but you need to see all that directly with the hotel'
10 times I asked then why did I hire you?!?! Of course they didn't have an answer.

I found out too late that wedding departments at the resorts offer exactly the same amenities, payment plans for you guests, transfers from and to the airport and even more!

Last but not least, the agent sent us a congratulations email few days before we were traveling to Cancun. She sent it to me but changed my groom's email and name! This just confirms their lack of attention to details and the mess they have!

Planning a destination wedding remotely is stressful enough, I strongly recommend working directly with the hotels who have way more professional teams than Destinationweddings.com

Fortunately, at the end our wedding was a dream but thanks to Moon Palace team and not to Destinationweddings.com they were a nightmare for us!
