Inexpensive Wedding Venues

Hi all,

I have just started venue searching and my fiance and I have a budget of 20,000 or less for a DC wedding with about 100-150 guests.

We have looked at the Arts Club and the Josephine Butler house.  Does anyone have suggestions of venues that will seat about 150 guests but won't break the bank too badly?

Re: Inexpensive Wedding Venues

  • What requirements do you have? There are a lot of historic mansions out there that are beautiful and lower cost. For example, I'm getting married at Oxon Hill Manor and it was $4400 for 8 hours. Newton White is another one that is nice and is the same price.

  • There's also Mount Airy Mansion in Upper Marlboro, MD.

  • Have you looked into St Francis Hall? They are pretty reasonable and they allow you to bring in your own vendors which I have found to cut cost.
  • Textile Museum is pretty reasonable too!
  • I have the same budget as you, with a guest list of about 120 right now, and I just booked the Capitol Hill Club.  There's no site fee, just a $10,000 food/drink minimum.  Our event will take place in three separate rooms (ceremony, reception, and cocktail hour) and we also have options for getting ready rooms.  I think the dining room where our reception will be held holds 150 people.  The downside - it's a republican club, so if you're not a republican, that might bother you.  I'm not a republican, but my fiance is,.  Also, you do not need a member to sponsor you - instead, they give a free one-year membership.
  • Definitely consider the cost of renting tables, chairs, linnens, lights when evaluating a venue's real cost. St. Francis Hall is so beautiful, however after I priced renting chairs and tablecloths it wasn't as much of a "steal" as I originally thought.

The Carlyle Club (it could be spelled differently) in Alexandria was a great price when I was looking into it. Also, Hulrich House in Dupont (also, that might not be the right spelling) was a good price and included a lot - however you'd have to be married in a nice-weather day for such a large group, not everyone can fit into the house.

I'm getting married at Clarendon Ballroom  - they have EVERYTHING included, even labor, for a good price. I'm planning my wedding in a very short time period so I don't want to have to deal with hiring a dozen vendors.

    Good luck!
  • Hi wegraves! We have the same budget and estimated number of guests as you!.  Our wedding won't be until 2014 so I'm just starting to research venues.  Capitol Hill Club is high on my list so far, as well as Mt. Vernon Inn, the Pheonix Park Hotel, and Waterford Banquets.  I havent' gone to visit any venues yet though.  I've just been e-mailing and calling places.
I'm planning to go to the big bridal show at GMU this weekend to get other ideas.

I recommend Osprey's Landing in Woodbridge, Va, especially if you want a place on the water. This venue is on the Occoquan.
  • Our budget was 30,000 and we went with the Regency at Dominion Valley in Haymarket, VA. If you make conservative purchases in all other categories, they might work for you. I loved that everything was included at the Regency and they don't charge you for silly things like a cake cutting fee.

We're also having our rehearsal dinner there the night before in their restaurant. Since we're getting married there, we don't have to pay a rental fee and just have to pay for everyone's food and drinks :) Jennifer Bodnar is the event coordinator there and she has been beyond helpful with all of my little and big questions.
