Does anyone know how the marriage license process works?

After you actually apply for the marriage license, what happens then?

You get the license right on the spot when you apply.  Your officiant signs it at the wedding and sends it in for you (or you can send in yourself) and then you can get a copy of the certificate at the courthouse or have one mailed to you.  I did it in Cobb, it was very easy and they give you written instructions.

It's a little different by county. We did it in Fulton and did not get our license on the spot. Rather, they mailed it to us within a week. Make sure you check on-line with your local branch for what all is required. For us we needed to both be present, have driver's IDs, birth certificates, and $26 cash.
Also, we were hoping to run in and right back out, but true to government employee reputation, it took almost a full hour even though there was only one person ahead of us

We did ours in Cobb and it was really easy! Just make sure you take cash. They give you the forms to send in after the wedding to get the certified copies. You need those if you're changing your name.

We also got our license in Cobb.  Ridiculously easy.  All we needed was our driver's license, filled out a form and we got it the same day.  It cost $56.00.  The only thing left to do is have our officiant sign and mail it off.  Easy peasy.

If you take pre-marital counseling it drastically reduces the cost. We did ours in Cobb as well and it was $16 because we took a marriage prep class at the church we got married at.
