Bridal Show Games - Do the Math!

I really didn't want to rain on the parade of another knottie who was excited about winning a bunch of money in a bridal show game. I've been in "The Booth" and had the talk with the salespeople and the math just didn't work out. So if you "won" a lot and you're happy with your "winnings" , congrats to you; this cautionary tale is not meant for you. This is about math and how
easy it is to be manipulated by carnival hucksters. The most prominent such game is where the large tuxedo rental booth display is located.

Whenever you win money discounts in a bridal show game, you need to know right then and there if you're being scammed. So you HAVE to know the base price. In other words, if each groomsman gets $40-$50 off of his tux rental, what does the $40-$50 come off of? What will he be paying?  If you get a $40-$50 discount per guy and it still costs over $150 that means that they raised the price to nearly $200 to give you the discount.

The groom's tux rental is free with every tux rental company - Was that amount calculated into your "winnings"? They tried to calculate it into ours!
It's not part of the "winnings" if you were going to get it anyway, whereever you went. Mall locations are expensive and so is having a couple of dozen managers at the show. Somebody pays for that! Try not to get caught up in the hoopla, and beware of any company that wants to take your money before you can do the math!
