April 2012 Weddings

Almost Checks!

Hopefully this will post, I've been avoiding TK due to all these message issues!

In the past few weeks I've been finishing up my card box/treasure chest (will post pics once it is 100%). Also I began seriously researching our honeymoon and I switched gears from Hawaii to Belize! I found an AMAZING vacation rental last night for over $1000 less than we would spend at a regular hotel. I'm so excited, we are going to go snorkeling, try scuba diving, see some Mayan Ruins and check out the jungle!

Also I'm helping my mom plan the bridal shower--her friends were going to do it for her but they bailed last night so she is doing it now. She mentioned doing an 'open house bridal shower' but I nixed that idea. It'll probably be over the long weekend in February! Yay!!

Re: Almost Checks!

  • Hey! We literally just changed our honeymoon destination from Australia to Belize, too! How did you find the rental? I'm looking into the hotel situation now, and was thinking that San Pedro looked like the best place to stay, but you're right, definitely spendy. We're getting married 4/29 but won't be honeymooning until 5/13. Can't wait! Happy planning!
  • Belize sounds awesome! Mayan ruins would be so epic. I'm jealous!

What is an open house bridal shower? I've never heard of that before. Remember, you are the guest of honor at your shower, so try not to get too involved in the planning!

  • @FutureMrsWright: This is where we are looking to book: http://www.grandcaribebelize.com/ (turns out if I book with them, we'll also get a $275 credit at the pool bar/grille, DRINKS!) Here are some other places I looked at that were somewhat reasonably priced

    www.belizeislandparadise.com/" target="_blank">http://www.belizeislandparadise.com/

To be 100% transparent though, Coco Beach was coming in at $2754 for 8 nights, and Grand Caribe is coming in at $1875 for 8 nights (plus that credit) so I think that is what we are going to do!

@em: no idea what an open house bridal shower is, my mom described it as: "tea and yummy things, soft drinks, etc.- from 2-5 in the afternoon - people could drop by when they wanted to, you don't have to open presents - but could just visit and enjoy everyone (no center of attention), and we could make it a little more low key - that way" Sounds sketchy to me...

  • Kmac, Wow that place is amazing! Thank you for sharing! I'll definitely have to see if they have an availability for us. :) One less thing to worry about.
  • Ohhh ok I have heard of those. We call them drop-in showers at my church, but that name makes sense now. I'm not a fan, personally, but they are becoming more popular. Why do you think it's sketchy?

It's just supposed to make things more convenient for your guests, and it's less "traditional" in that there are usually no games or anything. And I think the not opening gifts in front of anyone is to keep people from getting their feelings hurt I guess, for example if one friend gives you a new vacuum and another gives you dish cloths, KWIM? That's the way it was explained to me anyway.

  • @em okay I'm glad someone else has heard of them! I guess I'm just worried because my FI's family is pretty large and more on the senior side, so they might find that idea a little too out-there. Plus as much as my smile muscles are going to hate me with the opening of presents, I don't want to scare off my soon to be family! Also my mom's house isn't suited for having a bunch of people over just with the layout/bulky furniture. I think we'll be having it at my mom's alma mater's club for tea etc. should be fun!!
