    Some people use little bells.

Remember when we were kids and there were those little electronic things that made different noises when you pushed different buttons, like *pew pew pew* and a bomb falling noise? I think those would be pretty funny for people to have. I haven't seen one in forever, though.

    ETA: THESE THINGS!!

    zippity...that's funny.

As for clinking...I'm dreading this.  My mom will be hitting her flipping glass every 20 seconds thinking she's super funny.  She did the same thing to my brother when he got married.

I think I'll have them set her seat with a plastic glass instead!

  • I've heard of the DJ making an announcement and saying that if guests want the bride and groom to kiss, the table has to sing a song about love. It's a cute idea, I guess, but I can see people just clinking the glass anyways. Just embrace it.

  • I hate the clinking! I really hope noboy does this.

At one wedding I was at, when people clinked glasses, the bride and groom pulled a couple's name out of a hat, and those people had to kiss instead.
  • One of my friends limited the number of clinks to 5.  It worked!! The guests spread them out throughout the evening and once #5 hit, it was over.  I've also seen the MC announce that you need to tell a story about the couple for a kiss, it was really cute and personal and guests also got to participate.

  • We are doing a putting green.  They have to get a hole in one to make us or anyone else kiss.  My FI is a big golfer and our reception is at a country club.  My dad made the putting green.

  • Our escort cards have a poem and a little bell n them. It says" Today as we gather together, wish us a love to last forever. If you would like us to share a wedding kiss, ring the bell for a lifelong bliss" Hopefully this at least minimizes the clinking!
  • At a few weddings I've been to, the couple just ignores the clinking, maybe finally obliges.  Guests get the picture and stop.

But as far as alternatives, it sounds like there are some great ideas already--I loved those little sound-maker things?  What about kazoos, or whistles?

Tailspin...I LOVE it!!!  I'm stealing this idea!

All the ideas are pretty cute on here, too!  I also really like the one about having to tell a story about the couple first!

  • We got the little bells with the poem on them, I am putting 2 out per table... but I love the idea of pulling couple's names out of a hat.... that is so cute! I think I will try that... it will be nice to have others kiss their sweeties instead of having to watch us do it all nite.
  • I LOVE the idea of pulling out couples names....

I've seen alot of weddings use a giant dice.  Each guest has to roll the dice and do what it says before the B and G will kiss.

What the dice says is your choice, but I have seen things like:

    Dance a jig
    Sing a song
Kiss the person to your immediate left/right
tell a story about the groom/bride

    so on.

  • We are doing the names out of the hat thing. I think it would stop the other couples from doing too much clinking, and we dont have too many singles!
  • I've never heard of the clinking of glasses signifying that the couple must kiss. I've never seen it done at weddings I've been to. Hopefully nobody attending my wedding will know about it because I would probably revoke their right to clink anything anymore if they CLINKed CLINKed CLINKed away all night ....

Is this a popular thing to do at weddings?
  • izzyjenni- I LOVE your idea of them putting a hole in one! I'm definitely stealing that and it will be perfect because our reception is at a Golf Club!

We were going to do people have to "model" the kiss for us, and we will imitate.

There's also sing a song with the word Love in it, answer a question about the couple for a kiss, kiss as many times as how long a couple has been together.
