Trying to plan out of state wedding

My dream is to have a small intimate wedding on the beach. Wondering how to start the planning process. Needing some tips. I would love to have a house on the beach, have a cermony on the beach come back to the house and have a party! Does anyone have any tips? I live in Pittsburgh, trying to plan something in the Outter Banks. Anytihng would help.

Thanks!

    Congrats and welcome!

Definitely!  It will give you everything you need from inspiration to vendors!  Also, scroll through the first few pages of this board and just read through some of the posts b/c the majority of us are out of state brides, and a few from Pittsburgh and Philly area :)

Here are a few posts that may be helpful to you:

I would probably scroll through up to page 10 as there are a lot of posts that you will find helpful.  If you have any questions, we are here to help!

Most importantly, is your screen name your first and last name?  If so, you should delete this account and start all over again.  Internet security and all.....there are some crazies out there and you definitely don't want your first and last name so easily accessible, especially since this is an international site.  Just lookin out for ya ;)

  • I also live in Pittsburgh, and we are getting married in the Outer Banks on June 6 of this year.  We're having basically the wedding you've described, except a little larger (60-70 people).  Do you have a date/year/season in mind that you'd like to get married?  That will help a lot with figuring out a budget since things are generally cheaper in the off season, especially a rental home.

I would say if you know you want to do the reception at a rental home, just start by checking out event homes.  We've rented ours through Twiddy, but I'm sure there are other rental companies who have them too.  If you're interested, PM me where in Pittsburgh you live, and maybe we could meet up, and I could help you out.  I know just beginning to plan everything can be a little overwhelming.
  • If you know about how many people you want to invite, I would contact the rental companies for their list of event homes you could use for a small intimate wedding. I found that sometimes not all the houses were listed on their websites. They will also be able to suggest houses based on how many people and any special needs. The lady from Brindley beach was very helpful, we did not go with them in the end, but she suggested some great houses for us.

I am in the process of planning this type of wedding right now. It really all does depend on how many people you are going to have at the wedding and if you plan on having outside vendors. I am renting a house for approx 20-30 people, depending on who says they can come. Everyone who is invited to the wedding is staying at the house, so I don't have to pay so my wedding will not exceed the house limits. Also I am not having outside catering or live music. If you do a small DIY wedding you can just rent a house without having to get an "event" house and pay the extra $1,000-$2,000 event fee.

So the first things I did was decide how many people were coming, look at a few houses that I like, decide the type of food, music, etc.

Then you can start narrowing down vendors.
