North Carolina-Outer Banks

Weather!!!!!!!

Hi Ladies!

So I knew the risk I was taking when I decided to have a September wedding on the Outer Banks.  Its hurricane season...I get it.  My family has been going to the OBX the same week for thirty years and we have never had a problem with hurricanes.  Maybe the week before, or the week after, but never while we were there.

How are you guys avoiding not freaking out about this?  My wedding is in two weeks and there are three storms on the horizon....Fiona being the one I am most concerned about.  I know I cant control this (although I want to) but I just keep having nightmares that my entire wedding will have to be cancelled.  Its not the money, we will get it back.  I am just freaking out.

Thanks.

I feel you!  I wasn freaking out until this morning when I checked the local news site and the headline was something like "Earl is stronger and threatening Outer Banks."  Thanks for that!  Mine is the 10th but we're supposed to head down this weekend (right along with Earl).  I'm trying my hardest to think positively but it's tough sometimes.  Our reception is at the pierhouse which is pretty much ON the water.  I guess we just have to go with flow and hope for the best! G'luck to you!!

Exactly!  We are on the soundfront so the flooding potential is also scary even if the storm has passed.  Girl...I wish you the best.

We're having a 9/12 wedding on the beach in KDH.
I've been tracking the storms, was worried about Danielle at first, but I talked to the hotel cordinator and she says Earl will hit the end of this week/weekend and be fine for next weekend

Earl shouldn't be too bad, but I've got my eye on the one following it (possibly Fiona) - crossing my fingers that if it forms it hits during the week.  We have a second photo shoot the day of your wedding Jen... We will be ok :)

I hear ya ladies!   Mine is next Tuesday.  I knew it was hurricane season when we booked.  It just sucks that now its looking like this.  We're heading down on Saturday.  I've been trying not to think about it much.  Its one thing if it rains, we can deal with that.  It would really suck if they were evacuating though.

Hey Jen - we'll be at the Hilton's Pier house. The ceremony is supposed to be on the beach but as long as its not terribly bad, I think we can do it in the pier house.  How bout u?

Laura - our local weather guy in Raleigh says that both of the storms should be gone by then.  The beaches might not look so "pretty" though.  I do know that some of the most pleasant weather weather comes right after a storm like this so at least there's that going for you right? :)

<div>I don't think Fiona will be gone by the 7th :(  I think our wedding will be right between the storms.  We'll see. I don't care about the beaches looking so pretty, we just want to be able to have our wedding!</div><div>

    GreCole,

Let me know how your wedding reception goes at the Pier House. I am looking to book there for my April 2011 wedding and would love ANY feedback that you are willing to provide.  I will keep my fingers crossed and say a few prayers that the hurricanes don't effect your wedding day!

    Thanks!

Thanks!  I will definitely let you know how it goes.  I will say that so far I LOVE IT!  The staff is helpful and friendly and the food is good too.  I'll be sure to post more in a few weeks.

Good thoughts going out to everyone else this week...Sand in our toes and wind in our faces - the pleasant way!!  :)

Just an update on the forecast:  Earl could make landfall in the OBX, Thurs. Evacuations of the OBX may begin as early as tonight/tomorrow morning... Though right now the eyewall is forecast to remain offshore, flooding could become a big problem, especially on the sound side as the storm exits the area.

Right now, Fiona is forecast to be weaker and remain offshore.  So Earl is really the only major threat on the horizon.

Best of luck for your weddings (should make for interesting stories though!)

Also, you can always find the most up-to-date information from the National Hurricane Center:

    Good luck girls!

We were down last week for vacation and had amazing weather...then while we were leaving and watching the 3 hurricanes really develop...I started to really feel for some of the brides that were coming down while we were leaving.

So you all are in my prayers and thoughts and I wish you the best and that the weather cooperates!!!

Jen - I'll be thinking about you, I hope it goes elsewhere and not the OBX again!!  Even if it wasn't for all our weddings I still don't like to see these storms hit the area.

</div><div>JenO24, where did U get that information from? There is nothing new coming our way. Fiona is going off shore, and Gaston is a tropical depression right now, with a slight chance of re-development. The tropical wave located near the coast of Africa has a low chance ( only 20%) of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48hours or so. </div><div>
