Small Venues?

Sorry I know there are already a lot of venue threads, but I didn't want to hijack someone else's!We are having a destination wedding in Toronto but I'm having a hard time finding any venues small enough for our number of guests and price range. We are only looking at 30-40 guests and it seems like every venue out there is made 150 or more. I would prefer to have the ceremony and reception at the same location because of our tight budget and because we are all coming from out of town. It also needs to be an indoor location because it is in October. Has anyone been to any small weddings in the area? Thanks!

the place i got married might work for you.  not sure of your budget.  we had a cocktail reception there for just over 100 people.  it would be a nice sized room for a few large round tables, a bit of a dance floor, bar, and an area for you to do your ceremony. http://www.berkeleyevents.com/pics in bio

The size of your wedding sounds perfect for a restaurant - have you tried looking into any of your favourite restaurants? The Estates of Sunnybrook have a room that might be perfect for that size too. I haven't seen this particular room but I've attended another wedding at another part of the property and it was beautiful. Great food.http://www.estatesofsunnybrook.com/weddings/w_facilities.shtmlFor a more modern, chic feel, there are also a few small art galleries in the Distillery District. Click on "Event Facilities"http://www.thedistillerydistrict.com/frameset.htmlI really think a restaurant would be a great option. Good luck!

Duh, I skipped over the part where you said destination wedding so maybe you don't have any favourite restaurants. I'll post again if I come up with any ideas.

Not totally sure what their capacity is, but try the Gallery Grill at Hart House at the University of Toronto:<a href="http://harthouse.utoronto.ca/hh/page.php?id=FOD03" rel='nofollow'>http://harthouse.utoronto.ca/hh/page.php?id=FOD03</a>

How about Brassaii, which is on King Street West? It's a restaurant, if you're looking for something chic and cosmo. They have a courtyard area where you can get married - though maybe it will be too cold in October.http://www.brassaii.com/There's also a restaurant/courtyard café inside Hazelton Lanes (Yorkville) called Manyata - it's located in the middle of the shopping centre, very cool. You could have your ceremony there before cocktails and dinner.http://www.spiceroommanyata.com/manyata.html

Oh! Thought of another few awesome places, though maybe not incredibly budget friendly:- Jamie Kennedy at the Gardiner Museum- Panorama (51st floor overlooking the city)- The Roof Lounge (18th floor of the Park Hyatt, great view and terrace)- the restaurant on the lower floor of the Hyatt Regency. This hotel is newly renovated and it's gorgeous (if you're into the urban chic vibe) - the downstairs resto would be perfect for a 30-40 guest list... I don't know about the prices downstairs, but I met with them about the ballroom upstairs and the prices were really reasonable. It's got a great bar too.Man, I wish I had a small enough guest list to consider all these places...

Does it have to be in the city? Or are you willing to branch out a bit?  Because the Paletta Mansion in Burlington is fabulous.  http://www.banquethallsontario.com/BURLpaletta.htmI'm not much help with in the city, but these ladies seemed to have some great ideas.

I believe Jamie Kennedy's restaurant at the Gardiner Museum is closed now. But I think Panorama is a fabulous idea. Or perhaps the C5 restaurant at the Royal Ontario Museum. So many possibilities!

Wow, thanks for all the great ideas! We don't mind looking outside of Toronto as long as our guests will still be able to get around without cars. Most of what we've discussed so far has been restaurants but unfortunately they don't offer much for ceremony spaces, which has turned out to be a big issue. Keep the ideas coming, these are great :)

Hi! The Paradise convention centre has a gorgeous room with a Patio, where you can do the cermony on the patio and then move indoors for the reception.  I booked it for myself next summer.  I would look into it if I were you.  I booked it for 70 guests.. but I would call to double check if they will do it with 40.  There is also the toronto wedding chapel.  They do a ceremony and small reception for up to 30 guests.. its really a cute place!  Its what I originally wanted but the fiance wanted something bigger. I hope Ive helped!

If you want car free transportation then Paletta is unfortunately out, it's a bit too far.

Try looking at where we are getting married - The Old Mill Inn & Spa in Toronto! They have small rooms that may work and they also have a wedding garden and a chapel on site! Good Luck
