Convalidation & RCIA question

Hi Ladies!

I posted a while ago that my dad is going through RCIA.  My mom and dad were married by a JOP 33 years ago.  As part of the RCIA process, they got their marriage convalidated.  The convalidation went through Feb 14 (how romantic :)).  However, he obviously won't be baptized until Easter.

So, does that mean he won't receive the sacrament for Holy Matrimony since he wasn't baptized when his marriage was convalidated?  Or is the sacrament like back-dated or something?  Seems like there is a chicken and egg problem here, and I'm just wondering if anyone knew.

Thanks!

Re: Convalidation & RCIA question

  • There's no problem really.

Marriage is a natural state-- so they have a valid natural marriage. When he is baptized, he'll immediately receive the sacrament of marriage. So basically, 4 sacraments in one day.
