DL Video Production / Epic Video?

I usually post on Connecticut as that's where I'm getting married, but I thought I'd pop on here as you ladies might have some insight.

I hired DL Video Productions awhile back, and have been super excited about them!  I went to go show a friend their work today, and when I typed their name into Google, a WHOLE BUNCH of negative reviews popped up!  They recently changed their name to Epic Video.

Anyone heard about this?  Is this one disgruntled client causing a fuss, or has there been a pattern of bad service here that I should be worried about?  Anyone out there have any ideas how I can protect myself (especially as I paid in full)?!

Re: DL Video Production / Epic Video?

  • Thank you for inquiring about the negative comments being made about myself and DL Video Productions.  Unfortunately for us and for some of our couples a Hard Drive was dropped accidentally and all the footage was lost.  When we purchased the hard drive we were told it has two drives in it and it duplicates the footage and is backed up.  However after we sent the hard drive to three different data recovery specialist companies they all informed us that we purchased a drive that has two drives but does not duplicate itself, it splits the data between two drives.  Both drives were badly damaged and no data could be recovered.  I spend a tremendous amount of money trying to recover the data but was unsuccessful. We then turned to our liability insurance company to help us pay back all the couples.  They denied our claims and have forced us into having to pay everyone back out of our own pocket.  This was a very costly mistake. We are working very hard this year to generate the income not only to live but pay everyone back. As you can imagine this was a catastrophic incident that could have put us out of business.  Bad reviews tend to be one sided.  The bad reviews being posted are by brides that are not willing to work with us, and have REFUSED our efforts to pay them back.  All the other brides have been upset but understand that accidents happen and are respectful of our efforts to make things right with them, legally and personally. With hard work and determination we have rebounded from this and continue to be successful.   Rest assure, and please have the utmost confidence in our ability to film and produce a great film for your wedding day.  We have put into place a few measures to make sure this never happens again.  We not only back up all data twice now in the studio but have also backed everything up to another drive that we keep off site.   If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to call me or email. As a follow-up, David gave me the same explanation on the phone, and was very gracious in explaining how he would prevent a similar problem from happening ever again.  He also worked with me to give us raw footage as added insurance - he was prompt, helpful, unobtrusive, and ridiculously talented at our wedding.  It was like having a friend there as I was getting ready, and he blended in during the wedding.  I know he captured some fabulous footage.  He even stayed a few minutes late to capture the father/daughter dance and the anniversary dance!

Just in case anyone reads this and wonders... David really is a fabulous videographer, and very professional.  I'd recommend him to anyone!
