Providing own alcohol - what is a reasonable amount/cost for 100 guests?

Hey ladies,
We're going to be using a caterer that is letting us purchase our own alcohol for our wedding/reception, and we'll have between 75-100 guests.
What is a reasonable amount of booze to purchase or what is a  good avg. cost associated - anyone have an idea? Thanks!

Ask your caterer.  They'll know what amounts to suggest.

    Re - asking the caterer...

We used Nellie's Deli (in Sarasota) and they suggested FAR MORE alcohol than we could EVER have used. My in laws still have some of the liquor at their house, over 5 years later! And we have big drinkers on both sides of our family! So ask the caterer, but talk to them about it a bit too, and use some common sense too :)

We did two regular kegs and one mini keg. We also bought almost 18 bottles of 1.5L wine. Everything was gone by the end of the night. It was a five hour reception and we also did special shots every hour.

To compare recommendations, you can also ask a reputable liquor store like ABC fine wine & liquor.  They know exactly how many drinks in a bottle and then you can compare the two suggestions.

If you have unopened bottles you should be able to return them to the liquor store with the receipt within a reasonable amount of time after purchasing.  Ask the store about their return policy.

Many liquor stores and even Sams Club will let you bring back unused unopened booze, especially if you make arrangements to do so before you buy. This way you can buy more than you might need and take back the leftovers. No shortages and no waste this way.
