Don't really know much about that.. but maybe try asking on other boards? I'm sure there's a destination board there.

Hi Stephanie! There is a destination wedding board on the knot, and it is SUPER helpful!! I am getting married in mexico in march, and I used www.destinationweddingtravel.ca (jennica and marsha) They're in Vancouver here too. They were about the fourth or fifth travel agents I had gone to, and by far the best - they did more work than all of the others to find the resort with what we wanted in the budget we wanted! Good luck!!

Hey Stephanie, I am also planning a wedding in Mexico, and am in the early stages of planning, as we recently decided to go to Mexico instead of getting married back home in Grand Forks, BC. Although I don't have lots to share, I would love to pass on any info that I discover, as I am also on the search for all inclusive resorts and packages. Robyn, Cool that you dealt with someone named Jennica as my name is Jenica, and I don't see it very often :)

Hey Robyn, I have a question about www.destinationweddingtravel.ca. Was it very pricey to work with them? My fiance and I are working with a pretty small budget. We will only have about 15-20 guests, and as we both have younger siblings that are still in high school our parents will be paying for multiple flights/accommodations etc, and also have pretty tight budgets, do you know how they would work with us for those things, and do they tac on a lot of extra charges?? Thanks!

Yes yes!! They are FREE to use to book your travel/wedding.  They find a resort in the price range you wanted (ours was really hard because it's at spring break) then they do all the booking with your guests and deal with their questions/problems.  That part is all FREE to you. I think because they make a commision from the travel package people.  They also have an option (which we took) where they will do most of the planning with the wedding coordinator at your resort.  it's $485 dollars for them to do that.  They have just now gotten us a free wedding at our resort, and saved us 2300 dollars... so super good for us. But usually this means working with the WC about flowers, decor, reception etc.  They also make sure you have all your documents and paperwork together for the wedding in Mexico.  overall, I highly recommend them :)

When are you getting married Jenica?

Well the date is still to be determined, but we are kind of looking at this February during the Olympics as that is probably the ONLY time in the next 2-3 years that all our family and closest friends could make it, which is really important to us. It's going to be very small, just my immediate family, ( 6 people), my FI immediate family (5 people), my two closest friends, and FI's friends, which makes a total of 15 guests. It's kind of short notice for planning everything, as I don't have a dress yet, we don't have rings, and I don't even know what kind of color scheme I want or anything! Yikes. But we will try and get in to talk with the destination wedding specialists you recommended. We did see a travel agent and were a little concerned about what the prices might be like, but hopefully we can make it work out!

I hope it works out for you! A friend of mine just decided on a wedding the week before us, and they're getting it done. But I would get on things fast - because we had a specific time and budget, it took Jennica and Marsha a while to find us what we needed :)  Go dress shopping - its the best!

Do you mind my asking what approx budget you had and what it cost? I'm just curious. The unfortunate thing is that we are both so busy right now, it's really hard to get any time scheduled for us to do any planning, it seems like it just keeps getting pushed aside! We also found out that probably the only time in the next 2-3 years that all of our family can make it is during the Olympic break in February, and that is only 4 months away!!! Yikes! I won't even be able to order a dress in that timeline cause they can take up to 6 months + alterations. Scary!!! Anyways thanks for all your help, appreciate it!

I just realized that I kind of said the same thing in my last post as a few posts ago.... oops! Anyways I guess I kinda got my point across about February being the only time, LOL!

No worries! Yes, We didn't want our guests (and ourselves) to have to pay more than 1500 for the week and air. At the end, we got a deal at the Occidental and our guests are paying 1505 (that includes the taxes) for the week based on having two people in a room. But, if you wanted travel insurance, which we recommended - that cost was added on. I have one friend staying in a room by herself, and she'll be paying a few hundred more - and we've matched up everyone else. This was a great deal - as all of the quotes we'd heard were over 2000 - but it took some time to find. I have a friend getting married the week before us (feb...18th?) and she's looking for her dress. I think she can get one in, but needs to do it ASAP. So you probably could if you hustle. Yours is going to be hard in Olympic time anyways - but I would get going now. Waiting is not going to make it any easier :)
