To unity candle or not to unity candle

I'm getting married outside in June of next year.  I just feel that the unity candle is so over done and not for an outdoor wedding anyway.  I've seen the sand pouring done as well and think it's great for a beach wedding, but not for mine.  Any ideas on other ceremony ideas?

We didn't do anything during the ceremony.  Our friend officiated and gave a nice speech, we recited our vows, exchanged the rings, kissed and boom we were married.  No one missed the unity candle or sand pouring or anything else.
