Hotel blocks in/near TC

Our date is 9/22 and we're having more of an issue than I expected getting decent rates for room blocks.

We're getting married at Hagerty Center and the Holiday Inn next door quoted us $159 without a qualifying event, or $149 with a qualifying event. Qualifying event would be the rehersal dinner, thank you breakfast, etc.

Not sure if anyone here has been to the Holiday Inn West Bay, but seriously... I would feel ripped off paying any more than $80 for a room there at the end of September.  The hotel feels dated and pretty worn, though they claim their rack rate is $239.  Is anyone really paying that?  There's no way you'd catch me paying that much.  And, if I'm not really feeling the facilities in the first place, why would I want to hold an event there?

The story is much the same at the Bayshore hotel on the other side of Hagerty.  A bit worn and dated (though not as bad).  They want about the same price or slightly more.

We also checked Days Inn, Comfort Inn, Best Western, and Cambria Suites last weekend.  We'd be happy with any but Best Western, but the prices (even at Best Western) just seemed exhorbinant for that time of year.  One person we spoke to even said that Sept 22 isn't even prime 'color' season, but a lull between summer and fall color tourism.

I don't want to send any of our guests to a hotel I would gripe about if I were a guest.  If that means staying outside walking distance (anything other than Holiday Inn or Bayshore) and looking into a shuttle, we're open to that.

In short, any suggestions for places that are either a) around $150 and very worth it with regards to amenities/updates, or b) closer to $100, but not a roach trap?

Re: Hotel blocks in/near TC

  • Hi there -room blocks are hard to come by up there!  First, if you haven't already, contact the visitor's bureau - they will send out your information to hotels for you.  Its a lot easier and the hotels respond directly to you.  We are getting married Labor Day weekend these were our best options - the Quality Inn - average $125 per night, and the Park Shore at $99 per night.  We also saved some rooms over at the Great Wolf Lodge for around $159 per night.  Everyone else was closer to $200, however it is a holiday weekend so it was expected.  We stayed at the Quality Inn and it was sufficient, nothing special, but clean and nice staff and free breakfast.  I have not stayed at the Park Shore but its on the beach, and we checked out the rooms and they seemed fine.

    I hope that helps!

  • Thanks!  That helps a ton!
  • You might also want to check with the casino, or the resort. They both have very nice rooms. I have not started looking at rates yet as I don't have a date just yet. But I have stayed at both and they seemed reasonable and they have a shuttle.
