DJ Costs

We're trying to finalize the budget for my daughter's wedding but I have no idea how much a DJ costs.  Knowing that every DJ's prices vary, what is an average/typical?

We used Too Much Fun DJ (http://www.toomuchfundj.com/index.html) from Greely and paid $800.00 two years ago.

The costs that I've been quoted lately have been anywhere between $400 and $600, but that's just for basic music (no special lighting effects or anything). If any of your friends have used a DJ, and give you a reference, some smaller companies may be willing to give you a discount though.
