Europe & Bermuda Honeymoon! Advice?!

Me & My fiance are going to Europe for a week and a half, then to Bermuda for a few days.

Here's our plan:

Dublin
London
Paris
Berlin
Venice
Pisa
Rome
Bermuda

Any suggestions on places to stay or anything?! Or how to get the cheapest tickets?!?!

We're planning on staying somewhere really cheap--hostels maybe--while in Europe, then in a nice, but still budget-friendly resort in Bermuda.

Re: Europe & Bermuda Honeymoon! Advice?!

  • Opinion: That is a ton of places to fit into a week and a half (you're looking at 2 days max at any one place)... I think you'll spend a ton more time traveling than really seeing or experiencing the different places.  I would narrow it down to 2 or 3 places, maybe 4 at most.

If you do want to see a ton of places, I'd look into a rail pass or a cruise.

  • Uh... I don't want to burst your bubble, but you have WAAAY too  much on your itinerary for Europe.  There's no possible way you could see that much in only a week and a half without driving yourselves crazy.  I'd recommend that you stick with 3 cities, max, and choose ones that are relatively close together so you don't waste so much time in transit.  I went backpacking in Europe and when planning our itinerary, I underestimated how much time you lose traveling between each place.  it takes longer than you think.

For beginners, I always recommend Rick Steves' guidebooks and videos (some of which you can watch on his Youtube channel).  He gives great advice and has good recommendations for hotels, hostels, restaurants, etc.  We always bought our train tickets at the station (either the day before or the day of) and never had a problem.  It's almost always cheaper that way too.  For hostels, we often used www.hostelz.com to research reviews (it also gives reviews for B&B's and guesthouses).

  • Europe is big.  You can't hit all those places in a week.  Reconsider.
  • karkissy, you're worse than me! I thought I had alot on my plate! LOL

I managed to cut my choices down to Paris, Bologna, Perugia, Rome and London. 2 days in each except maybe 3 in Perugia, but Bologna, Perugia and Rome are all relatively close. And I plan on staying a full 2 weeks... Also, I have been to London, Paris and Rome before, so I know what I want to see and what I don't... And i still think this will be alot!

If I were you, I would cut out Bermuda, and concentrate on 2-3 countries and visit different cities in those countries.

But that wasn't your question :D  To answer your question, I have, on the advice of other people on this board, looked at www.europeandestinations.com where you can customise travel in Europe. And I think someone also mentione gate1.com... I found the prices to be very good on those sites.

Having said that, I have very particular places I want to go, so I think I will talk to my travel agent about booking everything for me...

  • Yeah, you need to divide your list and pick a side

Dublin, London, Paris OR Venice, Pisa, Rome. Those are all fairly close together so you'll cut down on travel time. I would skip Bermuda all together since it seems more like an after thought than anything else.

I also recommend talking to a travel agent to get ideas on where to stay and how to get around. You don't necessarily have to book with them, but for a trip as involved as this, it might be a good idea in case anything goes wrong, like you miss a flight and get delayed some where.

  • Wow!  I agree with PP's...that's WAAYY too many cities and countries for a week and a half!!  And they are completely spread out throughout the continent...and then Bermuda is even farther...it just isn't realistic in that short time frame.  Honestly, I spent 4 days in Rome and I could have stayed much longer because it's so big and there's so much to see.  And I only spent 3 days in Florence and really felt like I missed out on some good parts!

Just as KappaUCF said, make sure you consider travel time and don't forget about the time change and jet lag you'll have.  To give you an idea, it was a 6-7 hour train ride from Rome to Venice...and these 2 cities are in the same country.  I also want to point out that we've visited Spain and it was a 10 hour flight from Barcelona to Atlanta with a 7 hour time difference.  Definitely don't under-estimate travel time and how exhausted you'll be if you plan to enjoy it.

Like PP's, if you only have a week and a half then I recommend choosing 2-3 big cities that are closer to each other (like London and Paris...although I could easily spend more time there too..) or maybe 3-4 smaller cities that are near each other (such as Venice, Pisa, and Rome...just make sure you allow plenty of time for Rome since it's larger).  I also agree that travel books are a huge help.  Good luck!
  • I actually think this is MUD guys.

[QUOTE]Well I'm not asking for any advice on my itinerary. We know it'll be hectic, but we've discussed it and decided we're okay with that. So the itineraryis going as is. What I AM asking for is advice on places to stay so, can we move on to what actually matters here?

I don't think anyone was trying to be rude, but we're all trying to help you get the most out of your trip.  Many of us have been to Europe before and realize the difficulty of managing travel time, jet lag, etc.  Honestly, if that's going to be your itinerary then I'm not sure you'll even have time for hotels/hostels....you might as well book overnight trains or sleep in an airport.  Seriously, it is going to be very hard on your bodies and schedules to travel around a continent in a week and a half...and you probably won't even get to see the "highlights" of each city.  I really do recommend doing some research.

I sure hope you're right, but I'm afraid it's true.  Although if it's for real then I would like to read a review of the trip later for entertainment, lol.  FWIW, I'm not usually like this, but I feel extra irritable today and this annoyed me quite a bit, especially since we were trying to help. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif" border="0" alt="Undecided" title="Undecided" />  Don't get me wrong...I love to travel and jump around a lot...but I will never understand why some people think you can see all of Europe in such a short time frame.  If you look at a map, it just doesn't make sense....
  • Seriously, take a look at the logistics of this. You want a great honeymoon actually doing stuff, right? Not just sitting on the train/plane?
  • I'm for sure this is MUD.  She posted 6 times on the same day, in different threads, Once to create this thread, and then once to respond, then hasn't come back.

Don't worry about it guys. :)
  • I will say that I spent 12 days in Berlin and Prague (8 and 4, respectively) and 10 days in London and Edinburgh, and I felt good with that amount of time. I'd still go back to any of them, though. Especially London and Scotland.

  • For cheap airfares within Europe check out Ryanair and Easy Jet. Regarding hotels and hostels I recommend hotels.com. If you should need any advise regarding locations in London PM me. As far as Italy you can look into covents as they offer rooms in most cities.
