Table Settings??

So, I have my table numbers all worked out and made (which I am so happy with the way they turned out!! yay!!!)

But now I'm having a problem with how to let guests know which table they sit at. I'm thinking more of making a sign for each table with all the guests names at that table on it rather than doing individual place cards. But I'm at odds on how to display them!

Any advice, please PIP if you have inspiration!!

Re: Table Settings??

  • i was going to do the same thing...but the problem is that you could end up with a crowd of people hovering over a seating chart rather than grabbing a place card and moving on....

i want to see your table numbers!
  • I agree. I think that escort cards tend to be easier to use. I think I'm a little confused at what you're asking, though. Are you still going to use the numbers or are you replacing them with a list of names at each table?

Yeah I'm still doing numbers at each table, but rather than individual escort cards I was thinking of doing a list of the guests seated at each table, hopefully that makes sense
  • I agree with the others - escort cards will make for a better flow than seating charts, because people can just pick them up and walk away, rather than hover around a chart looking for their name.

Your table numbers turned out so well! Nice job!!!

I was originally just going to make a large poster-size framed seating chart like you're describing that would have names in alphabetical order by last name (listing them in alphabetical order is better than listing by table because it's easier for guests to find their names).

However, I think escort cards are logistically easier so that guests don't have to remember what table they were assigned (instead, if they get distracted or forget, they can just look down at their card) and it prevents the large crowds from forming around the seating chart/list like PPs mentioned.

The only way to possibly avoid the crowds is to have two different charts/lists with the same information on either side of the doorway leading into the reception.

I was thinking of something like these before I switched to escort cards:

image 0 Will be missing the fun

  • To avoid a cluster you could do more than one copy of the chart.  Like one on each side of the entry.  I would also think about some sort of logical order at each table?  Like maybe alphabetical by first name?  That way guests can skim faster
