Which island is the right island?

Hi all,
The FI and I are in the process of trying to plan our honeymoon.  We are looking into going somewhere in the Carribean but don't really know much about the islands and what they have to offer.  Can you guys help with recommending places, why you like them, and where to stay?
Here's what we are looking for:
--Beautiful Beaches
--Relaxation but also opportunities to sight see (things other than more beaches)
--Preferably all inclusive and budget friendly
--No Jamaica

Thanks!!!

We're going to Antigua - known for "a beach a day"!!

We're going to Aruba!  I don't know what it's known as, but it's in the southwestern Caribbean (away from the threat of hurricanes) and it's always warm and breezy and rains like 6 days a year or something ridiculous like that lol :)  It's more of a desert than a rainforest (less humidity) and FI wants to go offroading, so they have that, in addition to snorkeling/SCUBA diving, horseback riding, lots of great restaurants, they have a festival every Tuesday...It looks so beautiful I can't wait! :)

Yes! Come on over to the HM board, I'm the mod over there and the regs are usually very helpful as long as you give info such as a budget to stay within and what type of vacation you're looking for such as relaxing on the beach with a drink in your hand, or more of an adventurous honeymoon but still having beach time, etc..

With what you listed, the most budget friendly AI's (all inclusives) are in Mexico, the Bahamas, Jamaica (although you said no Jamaica), Dominican Republic, Aruba, and Costa Rica. Antigua, St. Lucia, St. Thomas, Curacao, etc... have at least 1 AI or more but are much pricier to get to making it less budget friendly.

Since you're looking for more than just the beach, I'd look into Mexico, the Riviera Maya area is gorgeous and they have plenty of sight seeing and adventurous excurions such as the Mayan Ruins, cliff jumping, snorkeling, zip lining, ATV's, sunset dinner cruises, party booze cruises, etc.. also I'd look into Costa Rica which will have a lot of jungle tours such as hiking in the rain forest, waterfalls, zip lining, etc... HTH!

i'm going to put in a big huge enormous vote for Aruba!  DH and I went a few years ago - it is heaven on earth (plus it's outside the hurricane belt, so you don't have to worry about it at all.  it's off the coast of equidor so it's far enough south that it hardly ever rains)

there are plenty of AIs there, but honestly, i would recommend not doing an AI in aruba.  there are soooooo many amazing bars & restaurants that i would feel too limited in an AI.  If you stay on Palm Beach, basically everything is within walking distance, too.

there's also plenty of things to do there that aren't just beaches (although their beaches are insanely nice!).  there's jeep sighseeing tours (they go to the lighthouse, natural pool & natural bridge), plenty of snorkeling & scuba diving (and "pirate" snorkeling tours - basically a rumrunner boat), sunset cruises, kiteboarding, shopping in Oranjestaad, etc etc.  i could go on for days about how perfect it is there :)

Aruba is awesome!!!!!!   We've been there a few times together b/c my dad has a timeshare and have had the best time!! Great beaches and the food is awesome - not too expensive (same as the prices here I feel like).  The weather is the same all year round, barely rains, and isnt in the hurricane belt.

I did actually, and didn't get too many responses. I was also curious to see what my fellow CT brides were doing <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />

Thanks for the info and suggestions guys! I'm having a tough time with this, I think because I'm not familiar with the Carribean at all.  Thanks again, and keep em coming if you think of or have been to other places!Laughing

I went on a cruise last October that stopped in Barbados, Antigua, St. Lucia, St Croix and St Maarten. Of those I want to go to Antigua or St Maarten for my honeymoon. The beach in Antigua was AMAZING and I could see many of the all inclusive resorts from the beach we went to. They all looked luxurious but not sure of the price. My FI has the travel agent looking into prices. St. Maarten was also amazing but you must stay on the dutch side of the island, I heard the french side is not so friendly/nice.

Hi there!  Nope, we just booked online after LOTS of research.  We are staying at Galley Bay Resort for 9 nights and booked through their agent (<a href="http://www.eliteislandresorts.com/">http://www.eliteislandresorts.com/</a>).  I stalked Trip Advisor for a LONG time before booking, and Galley Bay remains the #1 resort on the island!

If you're looking for budget friendly I'd definitely recommend the Dominican Republic! We found a great deal at the Majestic Elegance AI resort in Puunta Cana! Worth checking it out.

Great! Thanks for the suggestions guys! We are really leaning towards St. Lucia at this point.....I love the look of the beautiful beaches there as well as the volcanoes, rainforests, waiterfalls! Anyone been there?

Stopped there on a cruise and loved taking a boat ride along the island - it was beautiful! I also had some friends honeymoon there at Sandals and LOVED it.

We also did a southern caribbean cruise on RCI and really enjoyed that. We did mornings at beaches and sightseeing or shopping in the afternoon then went back to the ship. It was a nice way to see lots of islands to get a feel for where we might want to go back to.
