Your honeymoon

So originally my fiance and I were all about a Sandals honeymoon, mostly because it's all inclusive and so carefree.  We've recently heard so many mixed reviews and are reaching out for other suggestions.  Where are YOU going on your honeymoon, how long is your stay, what's included and what's the cost? TIA

Re: Your honeymoon

  • I'm having a DW in Paris this summer.  We will be in Paris for 8 days before the wedding, then the day after the wedding we are hopping on a plane to the south of France for the "honeymoon".  We'll spend 1 day in Marseille, 1 day in Provence and 3 days in Nice.

    =) *excited*

First, I am so jealous. That sounds great!

We are going to the Excellence Resort in P. Cana in Domincan Republic. Its an all-adult resort that I guess is further out on the beach away from other hotel's guests. I've read mixed reviews for Excellence as well, most being really good. Its an all inclusive includes casino, spa, horseback riding, restaurants that you dont have to make a reservation for and aren't all buffets and room service...we upgraded to the "Club" level so I think we get a couple extra perks( special beach chairs, better room location etc. ) Oh and the Excellence includes a free honeymoon package(regardless of room price) which gives you a champagne breakfast in bed, romantic dinner and some other things.. It's a gift from my FIL but I think the cost was about $3000 with airfare from NY.

    Good luck!

  • We had a DW on Maui, so we stuck around for another 2 weeks after.
  • We are going to Fiji for 10 nights and staying in a private villa with a private courtyard with outdoor rock shower and jacuzzi. We'll have a daybed and a hammock on our front porch with views of the water. All meals are included, a bottle of champagne on arrival, couples masage, and Fijian soaps and lotions. Also all our excursions are included.. kayaking, snorkeling, hiking to the waterfalls, wine tasting, sailing, and our favorite.. the Honeymoon Beach excursion. The staff at the resort will drop us off on a private island by ourselves with a picnic lunch and a bottle of wine for the afternoon.. just the 2 of us! We chose this resort because it's so far away from every day life, having our own private villa, the excursions, romantic dinners on the beach, and the fact that the resort has a maximum occupancy of 36 people. Definitely a splurge, but we planned ahead and booked it over a year in advance.

I've heard mixed reviews on Sandals as well. Some of our friends come back and loved it and can't wait to go back and others come back really disappointed. It probably all depends on what you're looking for in a resort and which one you stay at.
  • summerkutie, your honeymoon sounds *perfect*!

we are going to playa del carmen, mexico, and staying at the secrets capri resort.  it has 99% great reviews, is voted the #2 luxery resort in mexico based on travelors reviews, and AAA gave it 4 diamonds.  we upgraded to the honeymoon package which has an ocean view room, room service, better lounge chairs, all inlcusive food and booze, non moterized sports, golf, couples massage, couples spa treatment, private dinner on the beach, champagne on arrival, and breakfast in bed.  including arifare from new england in sept. and travel insurance and a private transfer from airport to hotel, we are paying less than $3000.  talk to a travel agent and see what they recommend!

Thanks! :0) Your's sounds amazing too! I love that you have reserved lounge chairs! Half the battle on vacation is getting up early enough to reserve lounge chairs by the pool!
  • We're going to Paris and Belgium. Neither of us has been to Belgium and the times I've been to Paris it's always been me either alone or with girlfriends so I'm really excited that we're going to be there together as h & w. Airfare and our hotel in Paris are going to be the two most expensive costs but totally worth it!

  • One night in Amsterdam, one night in J'burg, 5 nights at a luxury safari lodge in Sabi Sands, 3 nights in Paris, 3 nights in NYC (to watch the last home game in Yankee stadium.)

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We're staying at the Secrets Moroma Beach all-inclusive resort in the Riviera Maya, Mexico. Check out the reviews on Tripadvisor.com. They are amazing and we are paying around $4000. Everything is included, except the excursions that are not within the resort.
  • With airfare, hotels, transportation between cities, excursions, spending cash, etc etc etc...our honeymoon is costing approximately $6000.

We're going to London, England for 5 days; Paris, France for 4 days; & Brugge, Belgium for 3 days.

I've been to London numerous times, and it's my FAVORITE place to travel to so far, so we definitely had to include that. But I've never been to Paris or Brugge. I know one thing we ARE doing is having "Newlywed pictures" done in Paris. I've seen some done...and I would definitely reccommend it for everyone! We're going to have 2 hours around Paris, with a cd made with approximately 60 edited pictures, for $300 (not too bad for Paris!). I can't wait.

Good luck planning your honeymoon! =]
