vintage vegas - I need help !!!

Has anyone done or is anyone doing a vintage vegas theme reception and if so can you lend me some inspiration?  I'm looking for any ideas and suggestions regarding decor, and favors.  It's a march 2013 wedding & colors are black and white, with candy apple red & silver as accent colors.  I'm set with my centerpieces and am going to have amber colored uplighting to give the room an antique - ish glow, but am stuck on what else  I can do to give it a vintage vegas club type vibe.  Any help is appreciated!

  • Well first of all get some tables! Poker, craps, roulette...

The groomsmen and groom could wear pinstripe suits and fedoras. You could even do pinstripe dresses for the bridesmaids.

As far as decor goes. Retro Vegas can be though of in a lot of ways. There's Elvis and Sinatra, and then there's the gangsters. Lol. You could use records in some of your decorating. A few of the girls on here have had some interesting suggestions like making platics bowls by melting records. Using records in part of your centerpieces or as placemats. (Think you could use a record for every seat, then make your own round labels with the person's name and stick it to the record where the album sticker should be.)

Vegas is ALL about the neon, so you could consider some neon decorations. Real neon is pricey but I'm sure you could find some custom faux neon or even DIY faux neon stuff. If not neon just lights in general.

I was going to post a site for casino themed party favors but then I got a bright idea. What about custom card decks as favors??

  • Are you going for an old Vegas or new Vegas feel?  Perhaps you could do Vegas-style invitations?  There are a ton!

And also many other commercial sites sell them.  :)  Actually too many to mention so a quick google search if interested!

We used these TY cards from an etsy seller done in our wedding colors:

Maybe do different postcards/pictures of famous Vegas hotels in frames for table numbers?

A lot of the Vegas brides have glitter heels or have blinged their shoes out/blinged cake topper monograms, etc.

For your cake maybe look at some of the fun Vegas designs Las Vegas Custom Cakes, Retro Bakery, Caked Las Vegas, etc. have come up with.  Although you can't book them since you're not in Vegas they might be good for inspiration to show your own baker.

Perhaps have an Elvis impersonator come to your wedding, or have a family member do impersonations?  :)

MrsLiggett7 - thanks for the post and ideas!  my fiance & I have done a bunch of research today for this after reading the posts, and have gotten quite a jump start on some things!  We're going with some of those ideas... we arent having a bridal party, but my fiance & our 14 year old son are going with pinstriped suits... and he suggested the idea of "favors" even though they wont have our name & date on them, is to buy cheap fedoras online for the guys ( we found some black & white ones, with a red feather on them to go with our colors) and rest them on the seats of their chairs and thinking of using red, black, and white boas as chair sashes for the women.  I think we're going to have a few tables set up, and leave some decks of cards and some poker chips and things like that out so people can play if they'd like to.  We'll get the felt like table covers online so we can do blackjack at one table, and poker at another, etc.  It's very pricey to bring in real tables and dealers.... and our venue does allow this, yet no one can play for real money.

mizutamababy  - we're definately going for an old vegas feel..... we've actually picked quite some time ago, aint that a kick in the head by dean martin as our wedding song.   The table names are a GREAT idea!  I googled a bunch of old vegas casinos online and picked out a top 10 to use for the tables!  I love this idea!  We're going to use poker chips as escort cards.... put the guest name on one side, and the table name on the other.... and also use these to color code dinner meal choices for the venue ... we'll get some red and black chips, red for one dinner choice, black for the other.  As soon as we have some free time we'll have to pick up some old movies and check them out ~ that will be some great inspiration.

Thanks for the great ideas girls.... things are starting to come together with your suggestions.  <3
  • Don't know if this is too late, but I love the way this couple used vintage poker chips...

  • My FI and his BM are wearing pinstripes and fedoras.  The mobster Vegas is the look we are going for.  While we are having a pretty small wedding (only 10-12 people) we still want to have a look.  Google Retro Vegas...great ideas!
