Just Engaged and Proposals

Such a romantic engagement story! There ARE gentlemen out there!

This engagement story is so sweet and her fiance was even thoughtful enough to have a photographer sneaking engagement photos! He thought of everything. I wish more men would take their cue from this story!

Re: Such a romantic engagement story! There ARE gentlemen out there!

  • Uhh.. is this you? Since you just joined yesterday and have one post, I'm going to go ahead and assume yes...

For the record, I find your comment a little offensive. There are just as many not-so-lady-like women as there are not-so-gentlemen-like men out there.
My husband is an absolutely dream come true. He's probably more of a gentleman than I am a lady, but he would never say such things because.. well.. he's a gentleman. (and he also made sure to have someone take photographs of our engagement, but that doesn't mean that's the right way to propose for everyone).

Either way, congrats and happy planning

  • Ha, glad to see someone else found OP's comment kind of offensive. I wasn't going to say anything but...yeah. I'd have been SUPER upset if my FI had had a hidden photographer when he proposed. For me, a gentleman doesn't include other people in a private moment. Point is, different strokes, right? Do what works for you, but hold off on the judgemental implication that people who don't do it that way aren't romantic and/or gentlemen.
  •
“Okay,” he agreed softly. “But before we do that I want to ask you a question.” And the love of my life bent down on one knee while my heart overflowed with love for the man who said, “Will you be my Precious forever?”
• IMHO it's a little cheesy, but like PP said, different strokes. I think my H is a gentleman as well, but because he's not show-boating about it. He just is.
  • I had the least romantic proposal ever. I treasure the memory. It was unplanned, totally spontaneous. He said he just looked at me and realised he wanted to marry me and that was that. Haha! It was right for me and us. It was honest and sweet and right. (Except for a while I thought he was joking.)
If he had done the whole shebang like in that post, I....don't even know how I would have responded. Not our style at ALL.
But if you are happy, then yay for you! Maybe you should have a masquerade ball wedding to commemorate your trip!
  • So glad someone else thought of Lord of the Rings with the my Precious remark....

Romantic? Yes. Cheesy in my opinion? Uh...hell yes. But to each their own. My fiancee proposed in a garden after a romantic dinner at a bed and breakfast during a weekend away that he'd planned. It was just the two of us - DEFINITELY no photographer thank god - and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
  • He turned to me and asked, “Would you like to have a drink with me?” Returning his meaningful look I replied, “That would be my very great pleasure.”

What couple actually speaks to eachother like this?
