I've been pseudo-lurking around these boards for the past month, but I thought I'd finally say hello! I love reading everyone's engagement stories!
Oh? What's that? You'd just love to hear my story? Well, how kind of you to ask!
We had barely been dating a year, but we'd been living together since December and occasionally discussed the fact that we wanted to marry each other. On February 13, 2011 we took his mother out for lunch and several of his family joined us. As always, they assaulted me with their usual "When are you getting married?" questions, to which I gave them the usual "In the distant future when we can actually afford it" answers. In the car on the way home, I told my FH that his family really needs to knock it off with the getting married talk. When we got home, I changed into sweats, flopped down on the couch and turned on the TV. FH came into the living room and muted the TV. "I'm sorry about my family. I know wedding talk bothers you. I know you don't want me to buy a ring because we can't afford it." He leaned down to give me a hug. "I wouldn't propose on Valentine's Day anyway. You'd hate that." He paused, and then he got down on one knee, pulled out a beautiful solitare diamond and said, "So I'm going to propose today. Marry me, Honey." No frills, no bells and whistles...but an absolutely perfect proposal for us. As it turns out, he had been saving and shopping for a "perfect for me" for months, and he finally bought it that morning.
We're getting married October 22, 2011, but because we just found our dream house and will be moving soon, I've barely done much more than book a venue. I can't wait to be a wife...and I'm slowly getting psyched to be a bride, too!
I wish you all the best!!!
