Does anyone have any personal experience with friends/family graduating from med school? Do graduates need to purchase "tools of the trade" for residency?
My son has been in an MD/PhD program. When he was awarded his PhD, we gifted him and his FI (now wife) dinner at Alinea. Now I wish we had held out on that for now :-( He will stay in the Chicago area for the next year for his first "general" year. When his wife graduates next Spring, they will probably relocate to the Baltimore area.
I would gift them a trip or "experience", but because of his wife's schedule, her "off" days are hard to predict. It's too unpredictable trying to gift them tickets to the theater or a concert. Although I would prefer not to, is a gift of cash the wisest choice?
Any insights would be much appreciated.
