I know it's been mentioned on here before but I figure it's worth bringing up from time to time.

If you are going to Maui for your wedding/honeymoon/weddingmoon and plan on doing the road to hana, reserve one asap!! GyPSy guides are these nifty little helpful GPS guides that talk to you as you drive along the road to hana. It tells you a lot of neat facts and history about Maui and the places that you're driving by as you drive along. It also tells you where to stop along the drive so you can enjoy the ride without your nose in a book. It tells you which places are MUST STOPS and which are nice-to-dos, so if you don't have all day you can prioritize. It was WONDERFUL and we would absolutely get it again. I wish we had it when we went up the volcano too since it has a program for that as well, but we had already returned it by then.

Thanks Brea, I know FI's dad would love this, as he's always on the go and looking for interesting places to see and learn about.  I'll have to look into for June.

There are several pick up and drop off locations on the island. We picked ours up at some hotel in Kihei and dropped it off when we got to Ka'anapali!

We didn't reserve it, we just walked in and picked it up but I wouldn't recommend it... We got the last one they had.

I've read that most car rental places won't let you take their rentals on the road to Hana, is this true or did I misunderstand?

That wasn't true for us.  There's an area of road near Hana that is incredibly dangerous -- volcanic rock offroading, essentially.  That is off-limits to all traffic, I think.  The main road to Hana is up North and then all the way around the island -- I havne't heard for anyone banning cars from going there.
