Nebraska-Omaha

Hair & Makeup

I had one of my BM's that is a SAHM call around to salons while I was at work last week, and so far the prices are a LOT higher than I was anticipating. Marcia Tauriella, who was reccomended to me on here, for her to come to our venue, and just do hair and makeup is $150 for me, and $90 for each bridesmaid! And Turning Heads Salon that does not travel, and would about a 15-20 minute drive is $99 for me(but also includes a manicure and paraffin wax treatment for my hands) and $70 for each bridesmaid. So that's cheaper, but we would have to travel.

I've never had to have makeup & hair done like this before, so I'm not sure if these prices are average in the Omaha area or not, is this about average? Has anyone used Turning Heads Salon or Marcia? I would like reviews, if you have. Also if you have other reccomendations that is great too!

My BMs and I used Marcia for my wedding and loved her.  I have my hair cut/colored at Turning Heads and have had good experiences there, too.

I assume Marica's quote includes a trial run and Turning Heads does not??  That is something to keep in mind, too.

I used the Hair Market Salon in the Old Market for my hair and Blush for my makeup. Blush was running a bridal show special when I signed with her, so I got a discount. But, Hair Market was reasonable for hair. They also do makeup, but I'm not sure on their prices for that.

    Both quotes include trials.

And $150 is Marcia's quote for hair & makeup. It's $60 for just hair or makeup for my BMs. But she has a $350 minimum. I only have 3 bridesmaids. So I figured we're going to have to pay $350 no matter what, if we use her. And I would much rather have someone come to me rather than go to a salon.

I have been to Turning Heads Salon, and had great experience there.

Also, a great hair/makeup artist in Omaha-Tyler at RyTy Salon.  He used to work at Turning Heads and I still go to him when I can :-)

I looked in to Marcia as well based on all the recommendations and for hair and makeup for myself (including a trial) I was quoted $125, $75 for each of my girls, and $40 for my flower girl. I thought he prices were a bit high, especially since (and correct me if I'm wrong) she doesn't do airbrush makeup. I believe it is just regular makeup (although I'm sure it is higher quality products, but still).

I called/emailed around to at LEAST 20 salons in the Omaha area and finally decided on using Blush Makeup Artistry for our airbrush makeup (airbrush makeup, false lashes and a free lipgloss for touchups throughout the night for the bride) which is $60 for each girl (normally the bride is more with a trial, I think $80, but she said since I have a large party she will include my trial in that $60) and then I am using Kara Malone from Creative Vision Salon (at 2445 South 120th Street). I know her so she is giving me a good deal, so i'm not sure on EXACT prices, but I also know that her prices are WAY cheap for the quality of work she does. She will be having some of my girls come in to the salon that morning to get rollers in (for their convenience), and then will be coming to our hotel suite to do the rest of our hair. She's awesome =]

    Hope that helps!

I think its really weird that it seems Marcia tells EVERYONE a different price?
  • edited December 2011
This is what she quoted me last week:

    Hair & Makeup:
$150 for the bride, includes trial for both
    $90 for other adults
    $50 for other children

    Hair OR Makeup:
$100 for the bride, includes trial
    $60 for other adults
    $40 for other children

We have a $350 minimum per event.  In addition, there is a $25 booking fee that reserves the date and covers transportation and supply costs.
    Too high in my opinion.

^that's what she told me too rach! I think it's too high as well.

I'm actually leaning more towards doing my own makeup so i can use Bare Escentuals like I usually do. Heavy makeup the MUA's use makes me break out, and I don't really want to be a pizza face on my honeymoon, lol.

Is it weird for a bride to do her own makeup?

If heavy makeup makes you break out, I think you should check into airbrush makeup. Most, if not all is hypoallergenic. One of my maids breaks out really easily with foundation, and the airbrush was wonderful for her.
Be careful with mineral makeup for professional photography. I've heard some of it can make you look shiny or white.

^I use the BE Matte which was actually made with that problem in mind because the original BE made people look shiny in photos. I plan on wearing it for my E-Pics, so we'll see how it looks in those.

I will look into airbrush makeup, but is that more expensive?

Ash-I use BM but am considering trying the matte foundation when I run out...is there a huge difference? My skin is dry and flaky, but gets oily and shiny too. Such a PITA!

The makeup artist I used (Blush Artistry) charged the same for airbrush as she does normal application. I don't wear foundation on a daily basis, so I had no idea they even made matte foundation.

Rach - Honestly, i haven't used the regular stuff in over a year so I don't even remember! lol. I got the Matte when it first came out.

Mallen - OMG! I totally just remembered that I emailed Blush right after I got engaged! I am going to email her back now, Because I think her prices are a LOT more reasonable than Marcia's. Plus, if Blush comes to me to do my makeup, I'll just see if my cousin, who is a cosmetologist with her own salon, can do my hair! That way i save money :)

I loved Blush. I also thought her prices were very reasonable, since she came to where I was. I had someone else do my hair and it worked out perfectly. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />

I'm doing Blush for my makeup and already had my trial.  She is really nice and airbrush makeup feels so light, airy, and like satin!  It looked amazing.  My FI kept staring at me trying to get used to it (in a good way).  It is worth the money!

I looked into Marcia too (about a month or two ago) and got different prices.

    $350 minimum with $25 reservation
    Hair/makeup for bride with trial=$125
Adults hair/makeup $75 (60 for hair and 30 for MU)
    Kids hair/makeup $40 (30 for hair)

For hair, I looked around a lot!!  It was hard to find someone to come to you for a decent price.  I chose between Carrie from Euforia and Darcy from Boss Studios.  They were both very reasonable and had good work (via pictures), but Carrie requires a minimum of 6 people to come on location.  I think I'm going with Darcy (Darcy was recommended to me by Blush).

Good luck, I know how much of a pain it is!

    What did Blush cost?
  • edited December 2011
Hey girls who are using Blush Makeup-- there is a coupon online for $20 off brides makeup service and is always valid. I printed one out and I think I will be going there. Ok, so I can't find it online, but I printed it out and would be willing to scan it and email it to those who  need it. Just message me if you are interested. Hope that helps!!

Just an FYI- I do lots of on-location makeup and have done tons of brides.  My website is www.thegreen-spa.com. I did everyone's makeup for my wedding too.  It was crazy but I am too picky so we got some great pictures of me with my veil on doing makeup. :)  I also work for Mirabella makeup and do classes and artistry events around the metro.  I charge $35 for makeup applications plus travel fee.  Thanks!

Maybe instead of reporting all of those vendors you should consider that they're real people who are offering a solution to your problem.......

    Just saying.

I would love it if all my vendors just came to me and offered a decent priced solution instead of me doing all the work to hunt them down. It's not like they're spamming the boards. They're actually reading everything and posting when applicable.

Not to mention most of them are probably small business owners! Hello, economy boost!

Ah, but it is against the rules of TK, and if we don't report, then all of the cockroaches will be crawling these boards, bogging them down with garbage. We can't report one, and not another, so they all must go. If they want to advertise, they may do so on Craigslist.
