Vendor Reviews - May 29 Wedding

Venue - Joslyn Art Museum, Stortz Fountain Court
The venue was a phenomenal! We loved it, the guests loved it. We couldn't have asked for anything better. The fountain court is beautiful and romantic and offers enough space for both the ceremony and the reception. The museum offers SO many beautiful backdrops for pictures. The rates are lower on days other than Saturday, and these rates even apply during a holiday weekend.

Food - Abraham Catering (exclusive caterer at museum)
Mimi and the staff were very flexible. We wanted a cocktail party type reception rather than a formal sit-down meal. We had both passed hors d'oeuvres as well as several food stations. The mashed potato bar was a HUGE hit, and we had TONS of food.
Additionally, I could not find better bar prices anywhere. We certainly got our money's worth.

Wedding Planner - Tracey Fricke
I cannot say enough about Tracey. We planned our wedding from another state, so Tracey was vital in the planning. She has worked with so many local vendors that she provides helpful recommendations and has contacts with all the major companies.
She completely understood my priorities and was able to take care of details that weren't important in my mind. My biggest goal was to be able to enjoy my wedding day without taking care of a thing. Tracey made that happen. I can honestly say that our wedding would not have been what it was without Tracey's help.
In my opinion, she doesn't charge nearly enough for all of the work that she does!

Photographer - Paula Moser
We haven't seen our pictures yet, but we CANNOT wait. Paula took so many pictures of us all around the museum. Paula always works with an assistant and then we opted to have her bring a second photographer.
After the wedding, our guests commented on how unobtrusive Paula and her staff were during the wedding and reception. They managed to take pictures of our guests without disrupting the reception. They were extremely organized and prepared and moved very quickly through our list of formal family pictures. Paula, the second photographer, and her assistant, were all so friendly and pleasant. They were all watching out for me at all times to ensure that my dress was laying right, that my hair was in place, etc.
From our discussions prior to the wedding, Paula truly understood our style and didn't force us into cheesy poses. There were a lot of moments where my husband and I ignored the photographers and simply were celebrating. We were able to be ourselves.

Hair - Darcy McGuire
Both Darcy and Christine came to my bridal suite the day of the wedding. Darcy did a fantastic job. I wore my grandmother's wedding dress and Darcy did an amazing hairstyle that both matched the style of the 1950s dress but also didn't feel dated.
Darcy also helped the mothers and a bridemaid with hair. They were all very happy with her work. She was so pleasant to have around on that day and really did a fantastic job!

Makeup - Blush Makeup Artistry, Christine Danderand
Christine was fantastic! She uses airbrushed makeup which looks amazing even hours and hours later. She applied a decent amount of makeup, but I was amazed at how natural it looked in photographs. It truly looked like me, just better!
Christine was great to have around and worked very quickly. We were all very happy with her work and highly recommend her!

DJ - Complete Music, Ken Booth
We went with Complete Music because of price, and then our wedding planner recommended Ken based on her experience. Ken did a great job of getting our guests on the dance floor and accomodating our taste. At one point he even joined our guests in dancing.
We were very satisfied with his service.

Linens & Rentals - AAA Rentals
I honestly didn't have much contact with AAA. Tracey, our wedding planner, made all of the arrangements with AAA.
We were happy with the linen options they offered.
Again, I'm not sure how they did with delivery because the wedding planner dealt with all of it.

Flowers - Flowers for Special Occasions
Flowers weren't important to me and I actually considered not even carrying a bouquet.
I opted for ranunculus (a relatively affordable option), and a minimal floral order (the venue just didn't need much).
The only issue we had with flowers was that the week of the wedding, the florist called to say that she couldn't get ranunculus. For the original quoted price, the florist used peonies instead. The bouquest were gorgeous. So even though it didn't go as planned, we were still very happy with the result.

Rehearsal Dinner - Upstream Brewery Downtown
This worked out SO well for us. We had the dinner with about 30 people from 6-8pm, and then we invited all of our guests to stop by after 8pm. We had the downstairs party room which was a great size, has its own bar and pool table. It worked out really well as a place both for our dinner as well as a social gathering place for all of our guests.
The food was very good and the portions were huge. Maria coordinated everything, and it went so smoothly and exactly as we requested.

Hotel for guests - Embassy Suites
Ellen at the Embassy Suites was great to work with. The hardest part of the hotel was trying to guess how many rooms of each type we would need. Ellen and her staff were really flexbile in adjusting our block as needed every few weeks.
Our guests very much appreciated the spacious rooms, complimentary breakfast and happy hour.
You definitely cannot beat the location!

Cupcakes - Cake Specialist
We opted for cupcakes rather than a cake to allow for more flavor options for our guests. This was another detail that wasn't a major priority for us, so for the most part, our wedding planner dealt with the vendor.
We got exactly what we asked for. The cupcakes were very good, but definitely not gourmet. We didn't want anything fancy so they worked out perfectly.
