Questions - Need some help :)

Hi Brides!!

I have a few questions in my planning and am hoping I can get some help from those of you that are farthjer along in planning or already through the process.

1) Whats the average cost you paid for your DJ? Whats reasonable? I dont even have a clue what the mid range is and Im going to start looking soon.

2) Invitations? Anyone have someone design your invites? My twin sister got married a few years back and had someone do the designing and she just printed them. Anyone know of someone they'd reccomend and what the approximate price might be?

Thanks in advance!!

Sara

  • 1.  I think we paid 450 for our DJ which included dinner music, a wireless microphone for toasts, and then the dance music.

    2.  We designed our own invites.  It ended up being a lot of fun(well for me anyway) and they cost so much less than what my sister ended up paying for hers through a local vendor.  I love the people at Paper Depot in Mpls.  They rocked!
  • im only paying $200 for our dj, FI's cousin has his own company. normally he charges anywhere from $600-800.

we got our invites off vistaprint. thanks to groupons they ended up being ridiculously cheap lol! ive heard great things about paper depot :)

  • 1) I paid around $800 for my DJ.  I know you can get DJ's a lot cheaper than that, but when I met him I knew he was the right guy for our wedding, and we had a little extra money to shuffle around.  It was a great choice, and we had so many compliments on how great our DJ was.  So go with your gut on that if music is important.  I tihnk around $600 is pretty average, btw.

    2)  I got invites from WeddingPaperDivas.com, so I can't help you with that one.  But I did love how gorgeous our invites turned out.  They weren't super cheap, but they were a nice quality.

    1. Our DJ is matching the in house DJ price for our venue ($475), but he is normally $700 (last I looked at least). Definitely worth the extra money IMO!

    2. We went to Paper Depot also for ours (kinda). We went there and chose a design. They made us a sample to keep. We ended up getting the "shells" from them. We got paper at another place to print the inserts and actual invitation part on. I really loved Paper Depot. Really helpful and lots of great ideas. Their package deal includes whatever paper you want for the design. You cut it on their die cut machine then assemble them yourself. You can also "hire" them to do it for you but of course that costs extra. I have also heard great things about Vista Print, and we considered them, but did not go with them.

ETA: Our quote was about $250 at Paper Depot for I think 150 invitations. Depends on the paper, design, etc of course. Ours was a trifold, 3 inserts plus the invitation printout, a band, and the price includes the stuff you'd need to put them together (my mom and sister already have a lot of that kind of stuff so we didn't get it).

  • We're paying 1200 for 8 hours of music, starting at cocktail hour.

We ordered our invites through our DJ. So, for the invitations, reception cards, accomodations cards, and informal notes to invite OOT-ers to a Sunday brunch, we are at around $500.
We did not upgrade to a fancy envelope and ordered only about half as many informal notes, since we're inviting only people staying at hotels to brunch.

  • Our DJ for cocktail hour, dinner and the dance was $495. We added them to do our ceremony music too for only $195 more. We designed our invites with the collaboration of the paper depot and post net. I am very please at how much these will cost us.

  • 1, We got our DJ for about half off their normal price because they were running a big special in August. Not sure if you can wait that long to book. We kind of stumbled on our deal.

    2. I agree with a PP about using a groupon. I got a groupon for Wishing Tree Designs. I paid $99 for the groupon and received $265 worth of product. I got my STDs and invites with money left over. It was before the holidays, so I use the extra money to make custom Christmas cards. Ended up spending about $4 more after all that. I'd recommend looking out for Vistaprint or another card service's groupon. AWESOME way to save money.
