Day Block Event Center- catering, alcohol

Has anyone had a wedding reception here or attended one?  I haven't been able to find any review or information from people who have used this place in the past.  I was able to find their price information and some pictures.  Apparently you can bring in your own food and alcohol which seems like it will be a nice way to save.

Also in general do people think its cheaper to spend a little more on a prettier reception place requiring less decorating or go for a real cheap reception hall and spend more on decorations?

Lastly (sorry this is long) does anyone recommend a cheaper caterer?  As for alcohol how have folks done a bring your liquor for a reception in terms of serving and what you brought.

Thanks so much!

  • I've never been there, but for us, it was worth it to pay our venue to do everything. We had our ceremony and reception at a hotel, and that's where all of our guests stayed. Going the route of finding a barebones place and bringing everything inn ourselves could potentially have saved money, but it's more than we wanted to deal with and we got a good deal through the hotel, so we were happy.

  • Our wedding is at Day Block in November and we love this place because of the food and alcohol situation. We are using Deco Catering for the food- very reasonable! and are buying the booze and having friends bartend. We're not big drinkers, so for us this is the most economical way to have alcohol present without having a huge bar minimum to meet. (We'll only end up spending about $600 for our 100 guests).

  • If you had your reception in the main room, how many did you comfortably seat?  Did you still have room (in the main room) for the bartender, dj, and dancing?

</div><div>Hi - we are looking at this venue and would love the option to bring our own alcohol.  Did you have to obtain a liquor license to do this or since you are not selling it, are you able to just serve it?
