April 2013 Weddings

How long is your wedding?

Hello :)

How long is your wedding (ceremony and reception)?  Ours is only 4 hours, which I know is short, but I am curious how long all of yours are.  I would think 6 hours would have been perfect, but we are doing a Thursday night wedding and wanted to make it where as many people as possible can come and not have to leave work too early Thursday, and don't have to take Friday off.  Ours is from 6pm -10pm.

Re: How long is your wedding?

  • Our day will be from 2:30pm - 10pm.  The church is 2:30 -3:30. And our reception starts at 5:00 and goes to 10. We are expecting just under an hour for travel time between both sites, so the gap isn't really as long as it sounds.

  • Ceremony will be around 20 minutes and the restaurant said to plan at least 2 hours for dinner. We'll be bar hopping afterward until we all pass out.

  • I am walking down the aisle at 7:00 pm, coctail hour is from 7:30 - 8:30, and the reception is from 8:30 - midnight. So the entire thing is 5 hours.

  • Ours is 3-11. Similar situation to redjellybean with travel time between the church and reception.
  • Ceremony at 4:30 pm, cocktail hour at 6:30, reception from 7:3011:30. We also have about a 45 min drive from church to reception and guests who are staying at the hotel will go check in after the ceremony then take the shuttle bus to the reception. We're debating adding an hour to the reception cause our families really like to party lol

Our ceremony is at 5pm and we go right into cocktail hour. Our reception is over at 11pm. So 6 hours, but we have access to our venue the entire day. One wedding at a time. Our first look is there at 2:30pm.

  • Am I the only morning one here!? Our ceremony starts at 11:00 and the reception is immediately after at the same location until 3:30-- so 4.5 hours total.  I think that is perfect especially since we won't be having a bar and people may get bored with any longer!

  • Our ceremony starts at 4:30, and will only be about 15 minutes. The appetizers/dinner starts when we get to the restaurant, probably around 5:15ish or so. I imagine everything will be done and wrapped up no later than 8pm! (26 people, no dancing...)

  • Am in the only one partying late? Our service is at 2, ends at 3. Cocktail hour at430 dinner starts at 6, dancing at 7, ending at 12.
  • Ceremony is at 4pm...will probably be about 20 mins Social hour, dinner, and then dance to follow...we don't have to be out until midnight but I believe they'll close down the bar & music starting at 11:30.

  • Ceremony at 3, about 30 mins long. Reception is a 10 minute drive so I imagine people will start arriving there around 345/4ish. Guests have to be out 11 and cleanup finished by 1130.

  • Ceremony at 4. Cocktail hour 4:305:30. Dinner 5:306:30. Dancing/traditional and new reception stuff1st dance, cake cutting, shoe game, etc 6:3010. We own the place, so we can go over a little bit but I want to look after my vendors. Therefore, last dance at 9:50 and sparkler exit. Depending on how lively we are, we may afterparty at a bar not too far away but we need to be on the road by 10am to get to the airport on time. FI's a pilot and neither one of us care for hangovers anymore but this IS the only time we will have everyone together so we'll see what happens ;

Everything will be at the same venue. About 5 hours total.

    Ceremony 3.00–3.30
    Cocktails 3.30–5.00
    Reception 5.00–8.00

Our reception will be dinner, toasts, and cake only; no dancing. We might hang around in the hotel bar after the reception for a while if people are up to it.
  • Ceremony: 2:00-2:30
    Cocktail Hour: 4:30-5:30
Dinner and Dancing: 6:00 pm- 12:45 (last call at 12:30)
  • Ceremony 3:30-4:30 (Full Catholic Mass)
    Cocktail Hour 6:30-7:30
    Reception 7:30 - 11:30

We have a gap so people can check into the hotel and take the shuttle to the reception since there is an open bar we don't want people drinking and driving.

  • Our ceremony/reception are all in one location so no travel time

    3:30-4:00 - Ceremony
    4:00-5:00 - Cocktails
    5:00-6:30 - Dinner
6:30-10:00? Dancing and a baseball game (were getting married at a baseball stadium and there is a game that starts at 7 that night and there is viewing of the game from our reception area so sports fans can watch the game and still mingle with the wedding party and dancers can dance.  We have the place until 11 or 12 but I don't see us lasting that long.  Most of our friends (and us) are in their 30s with younger kids and family is all older so it probably won't be too crazy.

Sunday wedding. Ceremony at 4, cocktails at 4:30, dinner at 5:30, followed by dancing. Reception space closes at 8:30 (4.5 hours), unless we pay to keep it open another hour (we might). But folks might decide to head home to prepare for work on Monday.

We rented a house on the grounds for the night so the wedding party can stay and party all night, if they wish. That way we don't have to pay to keep the reception going.
