help with rsvp return by date

hey fellow knotties... I am going to be ordering my rsvp cards from vista print postcard, a group
on that expires next week. I need to know what date do i put for the return by date?
my wedding is April 26,2013, is it by March 26th i need them returned by, or sooner? Please help..

I don't know what official etiquette is, but I would want to know before then! I'd want to give myself a couple months to work with. But that's maybe just me.

When would you actually be sending them out?

Etiquette wise- never go with more than a month. Even a month is too much. My wedding is April 6 and my RSVP is March 21. It gives me a week before my venue needs the numbers, so that if I have to call anyone I have plenty of time. I would advise something similar- maybe 2-3 weeks before the wedding...

I'm planning for an RSVP date of March 13th or so, for my April 3rd wedding. It's a bit earlier than some, but the majority of my guests are coming from overseas.

Look at your venue contract, and any other contracts that need to have "final answers" or "final head counts" by a certain date.  Figure out which has the earliest date and add a week on to that in case you have to track people down.  That's what I did.

Just to drive home the idea that you can NOT make the RSVP date more than a month before. Personally I think no earlier than 3 weeks before. Because, the further out you are, the less people are thinking about your wedding and about those RSVP cards.. You WILL end up calling a majority of your guests if you make the date too early.

My RSVP date is a month before and I have no problems calling people and delegating others to call their guests :-)

my wedding is April 13, so i put Dec 13 on the dead line to return the RSVP's. so i figured i would send them in October giving people 6 months before wedding, and giving two months for the RSVPs to be mailed back and i needed the final head count by three months ahead of time for my vendors so that way it gives me time to figure out all of the cards and the people who haven't returned them  

 (i have to have everything on a specific timeline)

 if you need them in two months ahead of time give your self time to get those who didnt send them, i helped with my friends wedding and 20 out of 150 didnt send the rsvp back so we had to call every person to find out
