What does a certified copy of a birth certificate mean?

I am getting married next month and both of us have original birth certificates but what does a certified copy mean? Is that something different?

One of my copies has an embossed stamp and also a signed ink stamp on it. I'm assuming that is the certified copy.

Yep a certified copy has the embossed seal.

A copy from the courthouse. You can order it online. You just can't make a photo copy of your birth certificate.
