How early for save the dates??

Because another family member got engaged around the same time, and due to distances people will have to travel, we want to send out save the dates next month. Anyone else doing that this early??

<div>I'm sending out mine in December. 9 months should be long enough. And we have mostly out of towners coming.</div>

I think that is a bit too early to send them out. The rule is generally 6 months before the wedding. If you have a lot of OOT guests 9 months may be appropriate.
