Photographer Issue

I started to mention this on another thread so here's my issue.  I want to use James Byrd Photography for my pictures and they are booked on my day.  I have already set everything else up with all the other vendors for that day but I can't find another photographer that takes the type of pictures like they do.  So I'm thinking of moving my day so I can have my photographer and everyone thinks I'm being ridiculous because of the money I'll be losing in deposits. But it's really, really important to me. Any advice?

Have you talked to your other vendors?  Are they booked for the day(s) you are considering moving to?  Find that info out first.  You may not lose any money on this if they are willing to let you reschedule the date.  Good Luck.  I think the right Photographer is very important, so you are not crazy.

Maybe ask them who they recommend. I most DEFINITELY wouldn't change everything else just for your photog, considering how many great ones there are. This was my most important detail, so I understand where you're coming from. The photog that you really want probably has a few fellow photogs that he trusts and recommends (and also who are similar in his work). Try that! Good luck!

Well, I don't know that I'd change dates just yet.  There are TONS of excellent photogs in the area.  Can you give us a better idea of what about James's work you love most so that we can make recommendations for you?  In general, some of my faves are:

    Bella Grace Studios:  http://www.bellagracestudios.com/
    Red Tree Photography:  http://www.redtreephotography.com/
    Kriesch-Higdon:  http://www.kriechphoto.com/
    Photography by Sara  http://www.photographybysara.com/

We booked Bella Grace, but really loved Red Tree as well.  Bella Grace just worked out better for us, in terms of what we got for the price.  I know Josh at Red Tree will negotiate packages as well, though.  My contact with the other two was only via email, and was limited, since we were able to work out something with the photog we wanted most.  They've both gotten great reviews on here as well.

If it comes down to it, change the date.  But - talk to other photogs that you like.  Go visit, take printouts off websites of pics you love, and ask if they tailor their style to the customer.  Do they have examples of work similar to what you love most?  Often, they'll have much, much more than is featured on their website.  Although you love James Byrd, you may find that there are other photogs you love just as much, if you keep looking.

(We had an issue with our first cake baker, and ended up with a MUCH better baker because of it.  Hang in there - this could be a good thing!)

I had the same issue, but I decided to keep my date and look at other photographers.  I ended up with one I love even more than my original one. We booked David Lee Hartlage.  Also check out Sara Petty, she is great as well!
