December 2013 Weddings

Vow Renewals :)

So my H and I were married in July 2011, it was a small celebration, my daughter and immediate family only. We had more important things going on, we had originally planned a wedding for May 2012 but we learned we were expecting a baby and decided we would rather buy and house and save for our second little girl than spend a ton of money on a wedding.

Our renewal is a big deal to our family and our church. Because we were not wed in the catholic church they do not consider us "technically" married. Our priest is happy with the decision we made, even if the church doesnt recognize the marriage. He said that making sure our children are in a stable environment at home is just as important as their church environment.

So long story short, we got married, H got a new job that allows me to be a SAHM with my daughter and our second daughter due any day, we paid cash for our house so we have no payments on it, and so we have finally started discussing the beginnings of renewing our vows with the church. The first step is for me to finish my sacraments, I was baptized in the church but that was as far as my catholic upbringing went, my mom didnt believe in church. So in Spetember of this year I will begin the adult catholic education classes and Easter 2013 I will recieve my first communion. Which is why December 2013 is our vow renewal date.

So now we are planning a celebration with our family and friends. We are trying to keep the cost down, really it shouldnt be more than 150 and almost half of that will be children under 14.

I know not everyone approves of renewals but this is what we're doing and we are very excited. I get the plan the wedding ive always wanted and the best part is both of our girls will be involved!

  • I think thats awesome!  My parents did something similar, although instead of 2 and a half years later it was around 14 years later.  My dad went through RCIA as well.  I think its wonderful that you guys were able to provide that environment for your children.  Congrats on your marriage and now planning for renewal!

  • Greetings from across the Atlantic!  I think vow renewals are fantastic, We are planning on renewing our vows at some point in the near future.  We were married at a Catholic church in England, back in 2008, but I was not Catholic at the time...I have been through the RCIA classes and was baptised and confirmed Easter 2011...We plan to emigrate to Indiana within the next 6 years.  My Father is American, born and bred and resides in Indiana...he unfortunately could not be at my wedding, along with his side of the family...I've always felt that although our wedding was lovely, I missed having my Dad there, I didn't feel complete...so we're hoping to renew our vows with him (and the rest of my American family) present...Any tips for renewals stateside would be much appreciated...wishing you all the best for your renewal :0) x x <div>
